Thursday, July 09, 2009:
Having known myself for many years now, I've come to the conclusion that I have a mild case of OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder for those who absolutely have to have it spelled out for you). It can be rather random and attack at anytime, and there's not often a rhyme or reason for it. Part of it could be boredom, or another, darker, element could be that my inner voice instead of my common sense is controlling me. The devil is winning.
For some people, you might have to count steps as you walk up and down them everyday. Others, it might be you have to put your left sock on before your right sock. Mine is a bit more random than that. For example, somehow I got it in my head, that I just have to watch all 7 seasons of "Gilmore Girls" in a row. Now I've seen parts of the show from time to time, but I don't think I ever sat down and watched a complete episode from start to finish. And just where did I get this idea? From watching an episode of "Supernatural" where Sam and Dean are touring a movie studio and they pass by the set of "Gilmore Girls" (Sam was a character on GG). So all of a sudden I got that strange thought that whispered "you should watch this". No, I said to myself. Really, no. "Watch this". Uh uh. You can't make me. "Just Netflix it. So easy". So dammit, I did. All 42 DVDs. I should get the first one today.

Another one of my things is a food or beverage I can't get enough of until, well, I get totally sick of it from overindulgence. Right now, being summer and all, I'm on my McD's vanilla iced coffee kick. Love 'em. I've had as many as 3 in one day, and if I'm really feeling desperate, I'll buy 2 at once and put one in the fridge. Pathetic, really. I don't even try fighting it anymore. And it doesn't help that there are 3 McD's within about a 3-mile radius of me. If one ran out of the mix (which happened to me on Friday night), then another will inevitably have it. I'm completely doomed.
Do you have any compulsions?
Any hope for a cure? Labels: me

Saturday, September 13, 2008:
I'm sure we all get them. I think you know what I'm talking about: the lack of inspiration, the feeling you've got nothing to say, the realization it's all been done before. You wonder if you're just talking to yourself, if it really makes a difference that you're blogging, and yet why should you even care? You wrack your brain for an interesting topic, something that appeals to you as much as the people you know visit your blog. You don't want to come across as boring, yet at the same time, it's your blog and you truly blog for yourself (at least you should). Other thoughts cloud your mind. You've been doing it for awhile now and you're afraid that you're repeating yourself, that everyone's sick of your (Nathan Kamp) obsessions and wonder when you're going to get a life, or at least give away another book *g* You think you might need a break but you like blogging and aren't ready to go on hiatus quite yet. Part of the blues is that I'm having "one of those days", you know, the kind where nothing goes right and you just want to crawl under the covers and not face the world for a little while. I hate these kinda days because I don't feel like doing anything except wallow in my self-pity until I'm over it. Thank God for silly friends who know how to snap me out of it, especially my friend L who's just plain crazy. I came across this interesting article about the " blogging blues". Maybe in our quest to connect with others in the information age, we are burning ourselves out. I find myself spending so much time on the computer. I try and justify it since I don't watch much t.v., but I wonder what else I could be doing. Does anyone else feel like that, tied to your computer? And with iPhones, etc., we're even more connected. Crazy, crazy world. So I thought just for fun I would just post some random facts about me, because that way I'm talking about one of my favorite topics (moi) and hopefully getting past my burn-out at the same time. Do you believe in God? Yes very much so Ever been to Paris? No but hopefully someday... Are you competitive? Only behind the wheel Current favorite alcoholic drink? bella rose martini How long have you been on the internet? I think since 1998 First adult romance ever read? "Burning Obsession" by Carole Mortimer when I was 12 First car? 1990 Buick Skylark Favorite season? spring when everything is in bloom Are you a girly girl? not really, but I love to do my nails and wear pretty necklaces Celebrity appeal you just don't get? Justin Timberlake - he does nothing for me Guilty pleasure? the really steamy/dirty erotic romances Worst habit? Is laziness a habit, or a personality flaw? Can you ice skate? No, and here I was, born in northern MN, go figure What do you like about yourself? uh, my small wrists? What age were you when you left home for good? 19, and it was over 500 miles away Do you like talking on the phone? I'd rather not Do you believe in miracles? You betcha If you could travel to space, would you go? Don't know, I'm afraid of heights, but now if Gerard Butler were going... Current favorite pop/soda? Cherry Coke Zero Internet time sucker? Twitter Movie everyone has seen but you? E.T. Ethnicity? Finnish, possibly 100% Ever been to the mother country? Yeah when I was 21 and I LOVED it What are you currently reading? "Pleasure Unbound" by Larissa Ione (finally!) Parting words? Good night!
Thank you to all the bloggers, surfers and lurkers that stop by, whether you leave a comment or not. You really make my day :) Labels: blogging, me

...and in with the new... * Some of you may know I've been thinking about getting my hair cut for awhile now, and unlike the whole tattoo thing, this time I actually went ahead and did the deed. Here are the "before" and "after" results: With sweater. Why am I smiling? It's long and dull and just hangs there. Boring. * Without sweater. Not much difference here, but I took several pictures and figured I'd better use 'em. And yes, I took all these pictures myself, mostly at work, in my blue uniform. * The waves don't look bad here, but of course this is an exception. De-tangling in the mornings was a major pain in the ass. * Wow, I actually kinda like this picture. Of course this is after I've already made the decision to chop it all off. Could I be having second thoughts... * No, no, it's time to go. It'll grow back. Eventually. The old look was bringing me down. I feel better already.... * Several inches later...shiny and manageable. I'm liking the look, but not the morning routine. Short hair is work! * Hey, look at me, I'm actually kinda cute here. Who knew? Already my new look is having a positive effect. Look out, world. * My Verdict: No regrets. * So, what do you think? Labels: me

The avatar - you or not you?
A very special "merci beaucoup" to Julie for her blog post yesterday. It was quite fun, and hopefully she'll be making a return visit. I've even given her an assignment to make things a little easy on her, so let's hope it works. Otherwise I might have to recommend book 3 in a new series to her.... So here's my avatar. And it looks just like me. Except for the long hair. And the hint of cleavage. And well, the pouty lips. And oh yeah, the wings. Other than that, spitting image. Curious to know: what do you use for your avatar: is it a picture of you, or something else? I haven't decided whether I want to use a picture of myself or keep what I've got, which is oh, so me. And where you find your avatars - do you find them on the web and just down-size them, or is there a special avatar site you love to visit? I'm going to be making some changes to this place in the near future, and I'm trying to find a fitting avatar. Would love some input. Thank you much. Labels: me

I am NOT a "people" person...
...yet I've managed to work with the public for at least the last 7 years now. I work for a credit union, and I like my job very much, but as I said, I'm not a people person, and that part of it can be draining for me. In the time I've held this position, I've managed to adapt to people knowing who I am, approaching me in the cafeteria or even in the bathroom to ask me questions. Most times it doesn't bother me, though it's weird to have people I don't know know who I am. I deal. It's really not a bad gig and I try to have fun with it. Otherwise I'd go crazy. After a long day with people, I rarely like to go out during the week, especially in the winter. I don't avoid people altogether, but I do feel the need to get in some quality "me" time. But then there's this evil invention that keeps ringing and ringing and some days I just can't make it stop. Usually it's my friend L calling, and when she's on the phone, it's never a quick 15-minute conversation. It's anywhere between 1-3 hours long. For awhile, she was calling me everyday. EVERYDAY to talk for 2 hours. A whole lot of nothin' can be discussed in that time, let me tell you, but I just didn't have the heart to tell her. Finally, after months of this, I've either found reasons to cut the calls short, or if I'm in a particularly anti-social mood, I won't even answer the phone. I probably should feel guilty about that, but well, I don't. Are you a "people" person? Do you like talking on the phone, or do you have better things to do? Labels: me

What did you want to be...
...when you grew up? I saw a quote this morning that made me think about that for a minute, especially what I wanted to be when I grew up. I think as a young girl, I wanted to be Barbie. Sure, go ahead and laugh, but as the oldest with two younger brothers, my mom kept my hair short and had me in jeans and t-shirts, which I loved, but did nothing for my feminine appeal. I'd hear quite often from adults talking to my parents: "Oh, are these your three boys?" Who you calling a boy, buster?!?!?! (Some things you never get over, even thirty years older. Anyway, Barbie had the pretty clothes and the gorgeous hair (which sometimes got chopped off in a jealous rage) and a cool car. Forget Ken, Barbie didn't need him. She had it goin' on. Okay, she's not known for her intelligence, and if she were a real person, she'd be so top-heavy she'd keel over. But everyone should have a dream, right? Later, in junior high, I decided that instead of all the other girls, who wanted to be psychologists, I was going to be an interior decorator. Don't ask me why, because I have no taste, cannot coordinate color and fabric and design to save my life. But it sounded cool and fun and different than what all my friends wanted, and I liked that. A lot. At some point, probably because I did a small part I played when I was in the 6th grade, I dreamed of being an actress. Though I come across as pretty reserved and shy (some interpret this as cold bitch), I do have a bit of the drama queen flair in me that rages to come out from time to time. But the reality of it seems too grueling and uncertain. I need money. And of course, the one dream that persists even today, is to be a writer. Over the years, I've written incredibly far-fetched stories, way too much horrendously bad, angsty poetry filled with death and violence, and some incredibly sappy teen romance (also filled with death and violence. Those teen years are tough times). I even tried my hand at some naughty stories that have me blushing in mortification as to what I wrote. And no, those will never be surfacing up on the internet anytime soon. Destroyed all of 'em, I did. Some art is not worth saving. What did you imagine being when you grew up? What do you do today, and how is it the same, or different, than what you dreamed about? Labels: dreams, me

I got tagged, so here is my response to 6 unimportant things about me.... I have this fascination for the Loch Ness monster, and one day I hope to visit Scotland and go to where the legend began. I think it's the fantasy of such a beast living and lurking in a murky loch that has me so intrigued. Sidenote: there is a mention of this mysterious creature in one of Diana Gabaldon's books which is kinda cool. I am a huge animal lover, and growing up, my family always had dogs. My last pet, Roscoe, was 1/2 collie, 1/2 husky, and he was just gorgeous. But also rather reckless; when I was 14, he was killed by a bear. One of the most devastating things that ever happened to me, and I miss him so, so much, even now. There's nothing like the unconditional love of a pet, and my Roscoe got me through a lot of teenage drama. I loved him more than anything. During the 80's, I had posters of several actors and singers gracing my bedroom wall, but probably the two that stood out the most were Rob Lowe ("St Elmo's Fire", "Youngblood", "The Outsiders") and Jon Bon Jovi - the sexiest rocker to ever feature in my adolescent daydreams. Both are still good-looking today, though my adoration has waned over time. I had my first crush when I was about four or five. His name was Scott, and my mom has a few pictures of us together, holding hands. I still remember that. I didn't like "Catcher in the Rye". I read it in the 10th grade and I was bored out of my mind. I've considered going back to read it because it's one of those books that really cool people seem to love, but I'm not cool so really, what's the point? I was never baptized. This bothered me a lot when I was a teen, especially since most of my friends were Catholic and talked about it a lot. I felt like such a pariah, but I've come to terms with it, and my relationship with God is more spiritual than religious. I am at peace with my faith.
Okay, done. Anyone else? No? Yeah, I think everyone's done it by now. Anyway, now that I'm back, I'm working on some stuff, and I have a really cool interview coming up that I can't wait to share. 2008 should be a fun year :) Labels: me

MY Fave Romance Book heroes
Here's the deal: I answer, tag you...you answer. “Ten Literary Characters I Would Totally Make Out With If I Were Single and They Were Real But I’m Not, Single I Mean; I Am Real–But I’m Also Happily Married and Want to Stay That Way, So Maybe We Should Forget This…”
except that for me it's “Ten (or Eleven) Literary Characters I Would Totally Make Out With Since I *AM* Single. Oh Wait, They're Not Real. But I'd Totally Make Out With Them If They Were."

-Jamie Fraser from Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. Young, rugged, masculine, what's not to love? Plus he's Scottish, and that so totally works for me. No metrosexual is our Jamie, and thank the Lord for that. -Sam Starrett from Suz Brockmann's Troubleshooter series. I don't know what it is, but I love this guy completely. Part of it was/is because he was just so into his heroine that I just completely fell for him. Yeah, he could be selfish, hot-headed, a complete idiot, but then he does something so sweet and sincere that I am toast. Another masculine alpha with an accent. Yum-mo. -Zachary Bronson from Lisa Kleypas' "Where Dreams Begin". Yeah, yeah, yeah, there's Derek Craven, and Sebastian, and they are both totally hot, but Zach had me at that first kiss, when he becomes infatuated with Holly and starts a sneaky campaign to bed her. A blue-collar rich man, Zach is earthy, sexy, and arrogant, but when he falls, he falls hard and forever. Makes me melt everytime. -Kenny "Wildcard" Carmody, another SEAL from Brockmann's series. The thing about Kenny is that he totally wears his heart on his sleeve, and yeah, he's a big, bad SEAL, but he's also prone to falling "in love" quicker than you can say "you had me at hello". There's just something so vulnerable, so sweet about him that I wanted to take him home. At first I didn't like the woman he ended up falling for, but she eventually won me over, and my Kenny got his HEA. Love him. -Roarke. Come on, you know who he is, from JD Robb's "In Death" series. Roarke is like the ideal hero - rich, gorgeous, intelligent, sexy...and he has an accent. An Irish accent. Shiver me timbers. The man is not perfect, but that's what makes him so perfect. The biggest flaw that I see with Roarke is that he smokes. Huge turn-off, but for Roarke, I'd seriously consider him anyway. He's just too good not to. -Zarek from Sherrilyn Kenyon's "Dancing With the Devil". He was literally one of the most tortured heroes I've ever read about, and he was so close to being inhuman, without emotion, until Astrid. Even then, he didn't change much, but his love for his woman gave him back some of his humanity. He holds a special place in my heart. -Zsadist from JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series. True, Z is almost a carbon copy of Zarek, even down to being a vamp. The similarities are so startling, but Z made his own mark on me. That first kiss with Bella is enough to melt the coldest of hearts. Wowza. -Simon from Jennifer LaBrecque's "Daring in the Dark". Quiet, intense, brooding, a photographer with a sexy accent secretly in love with his best friend's fiancee. But is he going to do anything about it? Of course not. The man has morals, and would have never gone near her, were it not for a black-out and a life-altering secret. -Jamie Creed from Lori Foster's Visitation series. Jamie is mysterious, a bit strange, quite the loner, yet always shows up when he's needed. Always. He is like a wise old soul in the body of a man in his prime, yet he yearns for love for himself. Thank God he finally gets it. Who could resist? -Joe Morelli from Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. He's a tough, sexy cop who is just crazy about that lovable, inept bounty hunter Stephanie. Italian and all about family, Joe is the guy you bring home to dinner, and she does. Quite frequently. And he rocks her world. -Ranger, also from the Plum series. Sorry, it had to be said. The one reason Stephanie is not married to Joe, cuz see, he rocks her world too. Ranger has a thing for Stephanie, though he's not looking for forever. He's the ultimate mystery man: resourceful, connected, loaded, with a secret past that he doesn't share. Who are your favorite literary heroes? Why? Labels: heroes, me, tagged

I LOOOOOOVE my birthday. I am totally shameless, obnoxious, and demanding this one day out of the year...well, it's probably way more than that, but it's the only day I'll admit to it. Today truly does become all about ME. So of course I'd want to share my day with you, and let blogland know that today is Stacy ~ 's day. Rejoice with me. And, AND, I just know before the day is through, my co-workers will be beyond sick of me, my friends will roll their eyes and think I'm rather immature for my age, and I, well, I will be grinning like a fool because, you know, today is my birthday. Me, me, me. Nothing like a bunch of shameless attention to lighten my self-absorbed little heart. And a hottie to make me grin like a silly school girl. In my mind, birthdays are to be celebrated (obviously). True, everyday is a special day, but the day we were born is extra special; not just for me, but for all of us. It's like my annual reminder of why friends and loved ones and so important to me and how much I love having them in my life. They can get me through when I need a shoulder to lean on, or make me laugh harder than I've ever done before. They are living treasures. So yes, back to me again. Today there will be cake, and treats, balloons and banners, cards and gifts and dinner with friends and singing and me taking it all in like a queen before her loyal subjects. God, do I sound sickening or what? Truth is, today, I don't care. Tomorrow I may let guilt and embarrassment overwhelm me, but today is mine. Even my work extension is 1011. How cool is that? Ahem. Will you still love me tomorrrrrow? Labels: birthday, me

Crap. Jodi tagged me. I wish I could hate her, but I feel it's so much easier just to give in....plus she is rather nice and funny, so I'll just do the damn thing. Here are the rules: 1. You have to post these rules before you give the facts. (Done). 2. Players, you must list one fact that is somehow relevant to your life for each letter of their middle name. If you don’t have a middle name, use the middle name you would have liked to have had. (Okay, done). 3. When you are tagged you need to write your own blog post containing your own middle name game facts. (Done). 4. At the end of your blog post, you need to choose one person for each letter of your middle name to tag. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog. (Normally I'd let you decide, but today I'm going to pick a few): L - lazy. I am a human slug. Y - yearning. For sleep. For chocolate. For books. For money. For Scotland. N - nerdy. Complete dork here, people. You know it, I know it. No surprise to anyone. N - naughty. Life sure is more interesting when you're having fun. E - Entertained. Yeah, I'm easily amused & entertained most of the time. T - Time. I have to be on time. I hate to miss out on stuff, like movie previews), or get a bad seat. I'm so anal about it. T - Thoughtful. (And oh, so modest!) I like to believe that I do think of other people and pay attention to whether they are having a bad day or whether it's a special occasion or to include everyone for a party or outing. I hate the idea of people being left out or neglected. It hurts my heart. E - Empathic. I can't help it, I tend to put myself in other people's shoes. I hope that makes me a more understanding person, a better friend. I hope so. So there you have it.... Buh-bye. Labels: me
