 This is Ian Somerhalder. Isn't he pretty? I have had a crush on him since he was in a show called "Young Americans". He was a guy attracted to a girl he thought was a guy. Very hot stuff. Now pretty Ian is on "The Vampire Diaries", playing "maybe not so bad after all" Damon Salvatore.
Now don't get too excited. I am not giving Ian away. (I'd keep him for myself anyway). No, today I'm feeding another addiction. I'm giving away a $20 Starbucks card. You just have to answer the question:

Sometimes you meet people in your life that have a greater impact than others. It could be a life-altering impact, or one of a less serious but no less valid reason. Mandi is one of those people that I've known for several months, and much like Katiebabs, has this way about her that is fun, engaging, and totally infectious (but in a good way *g*).
I'm bad a remembering things, so I can't exactly say how long I've known Mandi, but it's been awhile, gotta be around a year, and mostly through Twitter. She's generous, funny as hell, and adorable in her enthusiasm for all things Bruce Weed, er, Brandon Flowers, red wine, and sexy books. I also think she has an amazing talent for bringing people together. That is really quite fabulous.  For me, Mandi is just someone I warmed up to right away. She's very easy to get along with, doesn't take herself too seriously, but is also incredibly loyal and quick to share a laugh or lend support. She's the type of person who takes people as they are, and I can believe that she's a loving mom who'd do anything for her family and friends. So today is Smexy Day, the day of Mandi's birth, and we are spreading the love around the blogosphere. Feel free to share why you love Mandi and how much her friendship and humor have meant to you. Okay, my birthday is actually tomorrow, but I have absolutely nothing against celebrating early (or late, for that matter!) It's true. Kind of a low-key weekend for me: grocery shopping, caught up on some DVDs, dealt with a little drama...and naps. I was a total slug and took naps both days. That's what fall days are all about, imo. Now it's Monday already and I just wanna spend my day doing what the hottie's doing. But instead it's back to reality, since it's obvious me and my co-workers did not win the lottery this weekend...unless the one in charge of getting tickets took the money and ran. If you won the lottery, what would you do with all that money? And October just isn't about fall and Halloween and apples, it's about birthdays. Most especially mine, but also those of some pretty awesome people in blogland. I know Christine just celebrated a special birthday, and there are many other October birthdays out there. If you're anything like me, then you like the attention and the parties. To me, it's not just about one day, but more about a week or even a month of fun. It's not so much about gifts (those are nice) but about celebrating life, and friendships. Know anyone celebrating a birthday this month? Or are you the one celebrating? Well another year has come and gone with little word on my younger brother. Last my parents had heard from a friend of his, he had lost his job and was living out of his truck. This hurts to write it, to think about, to consider the implacations. I try not to. I know that's awful of me, and believe me, there's not a day that goes by that I don't think about him at least a little, but if I did more than that, I think I'd go crazy. I'm not a very good sister. Today is his 35th birthday. I hope he's somewhere warm (he'd been in California and Arizona) and that his life is getting back on track. I had a grand birthday, and it was pretty much like I mentioned - lots of attention and activity. I enjoyed myself quite a bit, and still continue to celebrate. I thank everyone who stopped by to wish me a happy birthday, and a special thank you to Holly from the Book Binge for mentioning me at their blog. You definitely should stop by and check out their cool hang-out. October is such a busy birthday month, and now it seems to be a pretty popular wedding month as well. My co-worker's daughter got married yesterday, and I went to both the wedding, which was at noon, and the reception, which was at 6 pm. I've not been to many weddings in my time, and it was my first Catholic wedding. When my friend Lori got married 2 years ago, I was in the wedding, and the whole ceremony took maybe 15 minutes. Many of you know that Catholic weddings are significantly longer. I found it rather moving, and I liked that it didn't go by in a blink.
After the wedding, I went with my friend and co-worker to the hotel. Her husband was working so he was showing up later, so her and I hung out for awhile with the bride's mom and her family and just relaxed until it was time to get ready. The reception was so awesome, with an open bar and incredible appetizers to start out with. Later we went into the ballroom for dinner, and everything was gorgeous. After the wedding party was seated, the bride and groom had the wedding cake tasting, then the speeches, and finally a mariachi band played during the scrumptious dinner of salad, New England crab cakes, filet mignon and a tasty chicken dish. They went all out for their special day, and it was a blast dancing and just letting loose. I always feel like Elaine (from "Seinfeld") when I'm on the dance floor, but when you've been drinking and having fun, who cares, right?
Being single, there's some outside pressure to about when it's "my turn", or at the very least, to be seriously dating someone, which I'm not. Most of the time I can ignore it cuz I just don't care what people think, and because there hasn't been anyone I've been interested in enough to date. Well, that's not entirely true, but the one guy who flips my switch is involved, so it's obviously not meant to be between us. Frustrating, yes, but not much I can do about that, so it's not the end of the world. Anyway, the bride & groom had been wanting to introduce me to the best man for awhile, but since he lives in another state, that never came about. Turns out he showed up with a date to the wedding, but you know, after meeting him, I can't say I feel bad about that fact, especially since I never heard her talk - she seemed to be strictly there as eye candy. Plus he's in his mid-30's but parties like a guy in his 20's, which is kinda sad. Overhearing him talk to some people before the reception, he was loud and vulgar. All I could think of was "thank God". Horrible of me, I know. But what a relief! Believe me, being single is not so bad, when the alternative is much worse. I LOOOOOOVE my birthday. I am totally shameless, obnoxious, and demanding this one day out of the year...well, it's probably way more than that, but it's the only day I'll admit to it. Today truly does become all about ME. So of course I'd want to share my day with you, and let blogland know that today is Stacy ~ 's day. Rejoice with me. And, AND, I just know before the day is through, my co-workers will be beyond sick of me, my friends will roll their eyes and think I'm rather immature for my age, and I, well, I will be grinning like a fool because, you know, today is my birthday. Me, me, me. Nothing like a bunch of shameless attention to lighten my self-absorbed little heart. And a hottie to make me grin like a silly school girl. In my mind, birthdays are to be celebrated (obviously). True, everyday is a special day, but the day we were born is extra special; not just for me, but for all of us. It's like my annual reminder of why friends and loved ones and so important to me and how much I love having them in my life. They can get me through when I need a shoulder to lean on, or make me laugh harder than I've ever done before. They are living treasures. So yes, back to me again. Today there will be cake, and treats, balloons and banners, cards and gifts and dinner with friends and singing and me taking it all in like a queen before her loyal subjects. God, do I sound sickening or what? Truth is, today, I don't care. Tomorrow I may let guilt and embarrassment overwhelm me, but today is mine. Even my work extension is 1011. How cool is that? Ahem. a star in Heaven has a birthday
Today would have been Hannah's 6th birthday. If you remember, Hannah is RachD's beautiful girl, a source of love and delight and wonder, even to those who've never met her. Hannah passed away in July, but everyday before and since her light has shined, and when I think of her, I see a different world, a gigantic place where amazing things are happening all the time, and not just the same old place I rush through on a daily basis. Rach loves to talk about her kids, so I knew of Hannah and her sister Lily for a long time, getting a kick out of their child-like antics.  Rach has been amazing, and I know that it's been so, so hard for her. What mother wouldn't be devastated? But Rach has chosen to honor both her precious children by living life, and dealing with the pain and sharing herself with others. I cannot begin to imagine how difficult today much be for her and her husband Brien, but I know that Hannah is watching over her family, and that there are many, many people who are thinking of this incredible family, especially today. I am humbled at Rach's strength, and her loving spirit. I think she must be a very special person, and that those people in her life were drawn to her because of it. I feel so lucky to have someone like her in my life, and while I may not always say it, I visit her blog frequently and find peace and hope in the way she celebrates life.  This picture of Hannah makes me wonder: what was she thinking about just then? Did she she angels from where she was sitting, or little magical fairies that were completely enchanted by her? I imagine she saw many wonderful growing things, and that she was sending out her love to her family - Rach, Brien, and Lily - and those people who were never strangers to her. If you get a chance today, think about Hannah. Remember how wonderful it is to discover something new, something living, something God created and shared with the world. Notice the sound of the wind, or the scent of sunshine on your clothes. Watch the birds as they soar above, and the clouds as they float on by in their fluffy glory. Remember Hannah. You say it's your birthday....
Yesterday was Vivi's birthday,and she was celebrating it in style (check out how she likes to celebrate... here and here *g*) and it reminded me of how much I love celebrating my birthday...which isn't for several weeks. I enjoy the attention, the balloons, the spankings - just kidding *g* I do like celebrating, and can be rather obnoxious about it. It's the one time of the year I don't mind all the attention - usually I'm pretty laid back and prefer to stand in the shadows, off the radar. But on my special day, it becomes all about me. This one's for my youngest brother, Brett, who turns 30 today. I remember the first time I saw him: me and and my other brother Darin were staying at my grandparents' house when he was "introduced", and I fell completely in love. This was my brother. I was five, going on six, and just amazed that this little person belonged to my family. He's the mellow one out of all three of us, not really getting into trouble and kinda just cruising through school, but he's also someone who takes pride in the work that he does. He's constantly busy, being a mechanic, tow truck driver and volunteer fireman so he's always on-call. He recently moved away from home (northern Minnesota) and ended up in Wisconsin. I am so proud of him, and hope he's doing what he loves most.
