I am still caught up in my blog addiction, though I notice lately I haven't been on-line as much as I used to be. I guess that's a good thing, cuz I'm getting out of the house and enjoying the last few nice weeks before fall takes claim and darkens our doorsteps.
Anywayz, here are some of the blogs I love to visit just about daily, in no particular order (well, pretty much):
www.RomanceByTheBlog.blogspot.com - This is romance columnist Michelle Buonfiglio's on-line home for readers and writers. I love it because Michelle is a strong advocate of romance novels, plus she's smart, fun, and loves to chat about the hotties, too. It's great fun to have a chat about our favorite sexy movies and some of our personal experiences, and I've made a lot of great friends there. Visitors are intelligent, down-to-earth woman who know their worth and are generous with their support and opinions. This place is one of the most empowering blogs out there, yet while it's a place that celebrates womanhood and those books we love so much, it's also a lot of fun there too. And some of the coolest topics and authors can be found there.
www.JillShalvis.com/blog - Jill is hilarious. She has the incredible gift of telling a fabulous and funny story in just a few paragraphs. Usually they revolve around cookies, or creepy crawlies. But they never hesitate to bring a smile to my face, and I love the small glimpses into her world. And she blogs almost daily, which I love.
www.Sanctuarysbookblog.blogspot.com - This is a blog of 4 friends who blog about books, t.v., friendship, and whatever else catches their fancy. I like them because even though they are very honest in their opinions, they are also not mean or spiteful, and they are very welcoming of new visitors. These guys are really cool, and I enjoy visiting their blog a lot - makes me feel like part of the "in" crowd.
www.BravaAuthors.com/blog - I am a huge fan of the Brava line, and here you'll find a bunch of great authors sharing stories about their books and their lives. It reminds me of the Vamps and Scamps blog, another one of my favorites.
www.ImaginaryOrigin.blogspot.com - Mailyn is one-of-a-kind. I love visiting her blog because you never know what it's going to look like next. She is a creative person who gets this code stuff, plus she's come up with new blog designs for many of her friends - she is rather cool that way. She's also one of those people who pretty much says what she thinks, and I like that about her. I never think of her as mean though, just passionate, and she's a loyal friend to those she cares about - you'll see that when you visit her. A tough chick with a big heart. (Oh, I hope she doesn't slam me for that description, cuz it's true, Mailyn... or Dirk ;) )
www.kelleyv.blogspot.com - Kelley's heartfelt blog is one of those "feel good" places I need to visit from time to time. Whether she's talking about her writing and all she's learning in the process, or proudly talking about her little girl and hubby or describing the antics of new kittys, Kelley's blog is a welcoming home that makes everyone feel like a friend. Her enthusiasm and friendship is contagious. It definitely puts a smile on my face.
There are more, but these are the ones that I've been crazy about lately. I get a lot of ideas and inspiration and good advice and laughs from these places. Fun times.
What about you - what are some of your favorite blogs, and why?

Vamps. What is it about them? I was always such a cynic about them, never understanding their appeal to so many. What could possibly be sexy about a pale, creepy blood sucker? The whole idea made me cringe over the "ick" factor. I didn't find out what all the fuss was about until I picked up Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunters, and discovered that a vampire could be something other than cold, dead and addicted to the red stuff. He could also be strong, sexy, and oh so hot-blooded. Unforgettable characters like Ash, Simi and Zarek keep me coming back for more, though I've become impatient for Ash's story, and I'm fervently hoping the train isn't derailed before it has its chance to be told. Sometimes the stories are going in too many directions, but I am still a huge fan - you never forget your first vamp.

From there, I began to explore the different kinds of vampires out on the market, looking for love, and this lead me to discover the humor just waiting to happen when I picked up MaryJanice Davidson's "Undead and Unwed". The cover of the book was what originally attracted me to the series, but it was the humor and Betsy's obsession with shoes that kept me coming back for more...okay that, and the sexy undead Sinclair. Who wouldn't want a mysterious and powerful hottie in love with her for all time? It would be worth facing eternal damnation to have that be my destiny. I don't think I would be complaining too much, as long as he kept away from ALL other women. Personally I think if Betsy were a bit smarter, she'd keep Sinclair occupied horizontally more frequently than she does. And he does love her, so it's all good. Just get with the program, blondie.

Shiloh Walker introduced me to the world of the erotic vampire, the ones who mate with werewolves and witches and whose women are just as strong and bold as their males. Their bond is of a much more sexual nature, and sharing is sometimes a part of their nature, but it is a mutual choice, where no one gets hurt and being together can make the powers of those bonding even stronger. A word of warning to those who've not experienced the phenomena of this particular Hunter - turn up the a/c or have your significant other nearby and ready. This is some seriously hot stuff!

One of my all-time favorite authors, Erin McCarthy, has recently dipped her toes into the paranormal by writing a fun, sexy series about life as a vampire in the 21st century. To Erin, her undead are a minority, but they have rights too, and must learn to adjust to the world and find their place in it. Not all vamps have to be tortured souls...in fact some have goals and visions of a better world for their people. And why not? Vamps are, were, people, too.

JR Ward has taken a lot of these elements and created a darker, tormented and fierce hunter with her dynamic series about the Brotherhood. Her world has a strong code that her vampires honor, one that has consequences for their actions, and sometimes it can really hurt. Joy is equally shared with pain. Without giving too much away from those who have not yet delved into this particular series, I will say that the author doesn't tease or bluff, she drops the axe, and it can break your heart. Many dark and complicated elements drift throughout this series, making readers question the direction in which the author will ultimately decide to go. I think one thing we can all agree on is that nothing is sacred. But isn't that what keeps some of us coming back for more?

What all these vamps have in common is that they recognize their mates, they have a purpose, and there will always be a greater evil lurking around the corner, waiting to obliterate them. I also enjoy how some series maintain a world where their vamps must avoid sunlight, garlic, and sharp stakes, others break some or even all the rules to create their own unique existence. There's something for everyone.
What about you? Do you like a good vampire/undead story? Why or why not?
If you do, what would you recommend?

The winner of Jane Porter's "Flirting with Forty" is Holly! Send me your snail mail addy and I'll pop that in the mail sometime this week...or next at the latest. My schedule's a bit crazy, but I'll get that out a.s.a.p. Thanx Holly for visiting :)
I loved the answers everyone gave to the question. Just a reminder that yes, everyone, including authors and those who live outside the U.S., is eligible to participate. I still have 2 more interviews lined up, and that means more giveaways!
I am currently working on other interviews, and was wondering - any interview requests? Please feel free to give feedback. And if I end up getting that interview, I'll give away a book to you from that author. So speak up!
******
In other news, remember my whining? Yeah, yeah, I want to forget about that too; not my best moment. Anywayz, I just found out that I might be going back to my old office! I am so absolutely thrilled! Just in time for my birthday next month....yep, doing the little snoopy happy dance.....
Sunday, September 24, 2006:
The Plotmonkeys: here's another fave blog of mine, one that features 4 friends who are all published authors. Each of them have written for at least one Harlequin series and also have published single titles. They are, as follows:
I love how these ladies are good friends, and that they share writing ideas, and let us see into their lives. Plus every Friday is Jungle Madness day, where there is a contest. Gotta love that!
It really is a fun place to hang out, and to see into the day-to-day life of writers who have families and responsibilies and bad hair days just like the rest of us. They are very approachable, and appreciative of their fans. And they all love what they do. How many of us can say that? I enjoy hearing about the ordinary, and not so ordinary, life of a favorite romance writer.
Hope you decide to drop by and join in on the fun :)
Thursday, September 21, 2006:
I said I was going to have a contest and today's the day. Hmmm, so what kind of hoops should I have you jump through....nah, I won't be that mean. At least not today.
Instead, I'll direct you to Jane's website, under where you "meet Jane", she mentions how she loves what Hawaii does for her soul. So I want to know:
~What place is good for your soul?~
It could be anywhere: in your backyard; half way across the world; in your imagination. Just a place where you feel at peace, a place that replenishs your own soul and gives you what you need, at least for a little while.
I'll pick the winner at noon on Monday, September 25th.
The prize: a copy of "Flirting With Forty"
Good luck!
Monday, September 18, 2006:
Awhile back, a friend of mine who goes by the name BadBarb requested that I do an interview with a favorite author of hers, Jane Porter. Of course, I couldn't say no. I mean, who wants to end up in one of the scary closets she keeps? I'll leave that to the experts...the authors :)
So Jane, how long have you been writing, and when did you know this was your calling?
I've been writing since I was a little girl, and seriously attempted to get published from 1988-2000, which is a long time. In January 2000 I sold my first book to Harlequin Presents and have been writing full-time ever since.
What is a typical writing day for you? Are you up at the crack of dawn and write til the sun goes down? Please share your work day with us.
Because I have kids at home, and the youngest is just starting 2nd grade, I pretty much just write when the kids are at school, and then each day has a different agenda. I also know I spend more of my days doing business writing now than I used to. Whenever I have a new book out there is so much to do with book tours, press releases, media kits, event planning, reader fan mail. The actual writing seems to be an afterthought. However, now that I'm on deadline for my next book, the writing is pretty much on my mind all the time and I'm writing more and more every day. Soon I will be writing from 7 am til midnight, and I'll do that to get the book finished, but I don't want to think about it yet because its pretty draining and a lot of work.
You've mentioned that it took years for you to first get published. Why do you think you kept writing? How did it change you?
I don't believe in failing, and writing had been my dream since I was a little girl so I couldn't give up. There were definitely hard, grinding, discouraging years but I knew my writing was slowly improving, and I was determined to stick with it until I sold. So I did. And now here I am, with twenty-three Harlequin Presents behind me, and I'm completing my third book for Hatchette Books USA (formerly Warner Books).
What was your first published story, and what are all the lines you've written for? Do you have a favorite? (I love Harlequin Presents!)
My first book was The Italian Groom and it was met by lots of conflict! Some readers/reviewers loved it, other readers/reviewers hated it and that fiery initiation into the publishing world only made me stronger. I determined then that I would always write what I wanted to write, knowing that readers want an intense, passionate story with a happy ending. My personal favorite is probably Lazaro's Revenge, and that's because he was such a bad boy! (Love those bad boys!)
So, you know BadBarb. Tell us how you met and a little bit about your relationship with this person :)
Barb is a very strong advocate of romance, and a very positive one. (Just beware any closets. Actually now I think islands are to be feared as well). I met BadBarb through the online community and then in person at one of the RWA conferences (Denver, I think) and I immediately loved her passion for books, her love of romance, and her support for her favorite writers (particularly the writers she keeps in closets!). Barb is extremely giving and genuinely cares about the authors, and the books, and her friendship has definitely made this business feel less like business and more like a family. I love it! And I love every chance I get to hang out with Barb at a conference, too.
Jane and the infamous BadBarb
Romance readers are a very vocal, passionate group. What have you learned from your readers and how do you think it affects what you write? Do you enjoy going to booksignings and meeting readers?
I?ve learned from my readers what's important in a story, and I've come to respect my readers so much, that when I sit down to write a book, I know I owe them a great book, each time, every time. My readers are amazing women with complex, challenging lives and I want to give them books that sweep them away, wrap them in love, passion, excitement, adventure, and most of all hope. And yes, I love doing events if it means I get to meet readers. It's the only reason I do them. My readers rule.
Do you travel a lot when you research your books? If so, what are some of the most exciting or interesting locations you've been to? Where would you like to visit, for work or pleasure?
I use to travel more for research then I do now. I'm trying very hard to be home more for my kids sake. Since my divorce their lives have been changed so much that I really feel a need to be with them as much as I can, to help them feel safe, secure, and loved. Because I'm not using as much childcare, either, its slowed my writing down, but I'm happier now, and for now, while the kids are still young, they must come first. But with regards to travel, you've nailed my favorite activity. I love, love, love to travel and just returned from a couple weeks in Australia. It was wonderful going to Australia, and as I took the kids with me, it was a perfect trip, a great combination of work and pleasure. I've gone to some incredible destinations (London, Buenos Aires, Tokyo, Cape Town, Nice) and each one is special for a different reason, but there are a couple places I haven't been that I'm eager to visit: Morocco, Dubai, Greece, and Egypt.
Tell us about your latest release, "Flirting With Forty". I love that title, btw. What does it mean to be forty or older and looking for romance these days?
Flirting with Forty is the story of a newly single mom in Seattle who is still coming to grips with her life, at forty. She meets a younger guy, a sexy surfer, on a birthday trip to Hawaii and while there are definite sparks between them, her friends back home don't approve. Her friends mean well, but they don't want Jackie taking anymore big risks.
I love that theme, too, because in my heart of hearts, I think we have to always continue taking risks. I don't think we should ever play it too safe. If we're moms, then yes, we protect the kids, but mentally, emotionally we should still have goals, dreams, things we want for ourselves.
Regarding the number forty, I'm surprised by how much I'm enjoying being forty. I really like myself in my 40's and I hope other women do, too. Age is just a number anyway, and I've decided to love everything about being alive and just keep going for it. And if I could give any advice to other women, it'd be to embrace adventure, keep your outlook young, take care of yourself, mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. Live. Dream big. Don't stop having fun. There's no reason love or romance should be harder in your 40's. There are plenty of men out there, ranging from their 20's to their 60's. Women shouldn't focus on age, or forever partners, but rather, men who are good company. If you meet someone and you really enjoy his company, then slow down, breathe deep, relax, and just live in the moment as right now is the only moment we really have.
Which authors do you read for pleasure? Do you find that their styles are similar or different than yours?
I love to read everything, and my favorites include lots of chick lit, historical romance, paranormal, sexy contemps, anything and everything.
Any chance of seeing you write paranormals or historicals? What are some of your future goals?
I don't see myself writing paranormals, but I used to write historicals, very dark medievals, so we'll have to see how the market goes, and my time and contracts go. I've got quite a few books to write for my current publishers! (Music to a reader's ears!)
What would you like to teach your sons about love and relationships? Do you think they will ever read your books when they are older?
I'd tell my boys to honor their feelings, to love well and to cherish their women. Women need to be deeply loved. It's as simple as that.
Do you find it difficult to be taken seriously when you tell people what you do? How do you react to people who judge romances as fluff or porn? (Personally I think romances offer a positive, empowering message about relationships and how women should respect themselves and not put up with anything less than they deserve).
I have no problem being taken seriously, maybe because I'm so passionate about what I do, and so passionate about the quality of books we write for our readers! I love what I do, and am consumed by what I do, and there's no room in my head for worry or doubt or insecurity about writing romance and women's fiction. Women deserve great books; women deserve books where women are the heroes and their values are respected; women need to be respected by society and others. That's why I write, those beliefs shape who I am and the words I put on paper, and this might sound brutal, but I could care less about the critics. The critics are negative and small-minded and women don't need it. Women don't have to answer to anyone. We women just got to go for it.
What do you do to relax and have fun? What type of music/movies/tv shows do you enjoy?
I read, I try to see my friends, and I love to go to the movies. I don't watch a lot of tv although last year I did enjoy trying to catch episodes of Grey's Anatomy.
If you could meet anyone in the world, writer or not, who would that person be, and why?
Right now, because of the book I'm writing, I'd love to meet Angelina Jolie and interview her for hours. I want to know why she's not afraid to break rank, and do what she wants. I'm curious as to why she doesn't seem to care about public opinion or criticism. I'd like to know what her experiences have been as a single mom and if it's easier now with Brad in the picture, or if there's more conflict trying to share parental duties with what was once an outsider.
What's next on your plate? Any details you can share about upcoming releases?
I'm writing my next book for Hachette Books/5 Spot now. It'll be a September 2007 release, a novel about the "Mommy Wars" and after I wrap this one up, I've a Harlequin to write and then another book for 5 Spot, as my next two trade paperback books are linked, kind of like Emily Giffin's "Something Borrowed" and "Something Blue". I'm really enjoying writing right now and very much in the groove so it's a good place to be. I always have details about my current and upcoming releases on my website, www.janeporter.com so it's a good place for readers to visit to see what I'm doing and where I'm going to be next.
Wow, fabulous answers! Thank you Jane, for spending some time with us here - I know how busy you are with your family and your writing. I wish I would have gotten the opportunity to meet you at RWA....maybe next year. I really look forward to keeping up with your stories - all the best to you :)
Stay tuned for a contest to win a copy of "Flirting with Forty"!
Sunday, September 17, 2006:
Recently, like within the last two days, I've won two blog contests. Of course, I'm so excited that I won, and I can't wait to get my prizes, which are books. As a reader, I just can't get enough books!
But I'm curious though: am I being a prize hog? One contest I won for being the first to post on a topic, so I knew that I would get something. The other was a random drawing, which I have no control over. But I can't help feeling a little guilty. But why? Isn't that why a lot of us blog? I know it's part of the reason. Not the entire reason, but I like winning just like everyone else.
I guess part of what makes me feel better about writing is that I regularly post at both blogs. I check in a few times a week, at least (though I am a self-professed blog slut and in truth probably visit a lot more times than that).
I know there are some out there who only post when there's a contest. I know because it's happened here. Should I be upset by that? I don't know. I mean, the point is to bring people to my blog or to highlight a book/author and I'm enticing them by offering up a prize, so who am I to judge who enters? I don't exclude anyone from entering, regardless of where they are from, but sometimes I will make it so there's a little work involved to win the prize. I can be so mean LOL.
What are your thoughts on contests? What does it take to get you to enter them? Why won't you enter a certain contest?
What contests are your favorite?
Friday, September 15, 2006:
Okay, boring post. I'm working on some author interviews and the brain is mush. Here are my questions:
What are you reading?
Would you recommend it? Why/Why not?
What do you want to read next ?
Wednesday, September 13, 2006:
I was so hungry today, and as you can imagine I was obsessing about food all day long. But not just any old edible munchy would do. Anyway, the day could not go by fast enough. Finally, it was 5pm, but then I had a bunch of errands to run, so around 7:30, I was able to go to one of my favorite places when I'm starving - Baja Fresh - and got a taco combo plate, classic style (no freakin' onions, thank God!), with black beans. I enhaled it and now I feel like a total loser, but hey, it was so worth it.
Now I'm sleepy, and just want to spend the rest of the night reading. What's your latest craving? Food, drink or other? Is this a regular need or a special treat? I'd have to say mine is probably a once-a-week need. I'd love to hear yours.
Monday, September 11, 2006:
I wasn't going to post anything today. Just didn't feel like it. But then I got some really fabulous news, and thought I'd share:
If you recall, Justin is a Navy SEAL who needs a bone marrow transplant. Looks like God decided to grant him the good news today of all days. Many blessings to Justin, his wife Suzanne and the rest of his family. This just warms my heart :)

September @ my blog is going to be biz-zee! Lots of stuff coming up, and it's all pretty exciting.
First, let me start out by announcing the winner of Kelley Vitollo's e-story, "Dream Man", is Cryna! So Cryna, if you haven't already, I need your email addy, and once I figure out how to send a download to someone else (it can't be all that hard), you will get your prize :)
Then, I have upcoming interviews with Kathleen Dante, Jane Porter, and Edwina Columbia. I always like to have a contest when I have the authors "visit", so that means more giveaways.
And I plan on adding polls to the blog, letting any and all visitors speak their mind about what they like and want to see. I want this to be a more interactive place, though I'll still throw my $0.02 cents in from time to time, with a hottie or two for good measure.
So tell me: whatcha reading these days, and would you recommend it to a friend?
Saturday, September 09, 2006:
One of the first blogs I actively started posting at was one who had a lot of authors I love: Erin McCarthy, Shiloh Walker, LuAnn McLane, to name a few. I got to know them at the Yahoo group, ScampsVampsandSpicyRomance. Later, the lot of them created the Vamps & Scamps blog.
Why do I enjoy this blog? Because like I mentioned, there are quite a few awesome authors who belong to it, and also because it's a fun place with a lot of positive and sexy attitude. Topics range from books to pets to what's sexy, and it's about friends and enjoying each other's company. I visit quite a few blogs, but this is the one I always come back to because I consider the authors and a lot of the posters to be friends. Strange, isn't it, to consider an author to be a friend, but the internet is an amazing place, and it lead to several meetings and get-togethers with said authors, so I feel comfortable making that claim. They are some amazing people, let me tell you.
Another reason why I enjoy it is because there seems to be a lot of negative energy out there, not just on the internet but out in the real world as well. Personal stuff, drama at work, and tragedies in other states and other countries. That can be so draining. And really, really boring. I like having a safe haven to hang out at where you can forget all the crap and the superficial people and the whining and know you're hanging with people who share a lot of the same experiences and who love to do a lot of cool stuff. They also band together to support some important causes, and that's one of my passions. Plus, these ladies can be a little bit naughty, and we love to talk about our favorite eye candy, so it's all good. There are some things you just never get tired of talking about.
So if you're up to it, go check it out. And if you need further encouragement, occasionally the authors have some real cool contests. Books are involved.

Thursday, September 07, 2006:
How about a download of Kelley Vitollo's first published work, "Dream Man"?
Sadie has the same dream every night. She dreams of a man with black hair, gorgeous blue eyes, and magical hands. When dream becomes reality and she comes face to face with her dream man, will he be everything she imagined, and more?
All you have to do is post about one of your dreams, and it can be whatever you want: maybe something you've always wanted to accomplish (example: write a book, live in an Italian villa, get your college degree); a fantasy you've entertained (marrying Johnny Depp, being able to fly like Superman, winning the lottery) or even a recurring dream of your own. Share your favorite dream, real or imagined, new or one you've had a while, and you will be entered in a random drawing for a download of Kelley's story.
The drawing will be held at noon CST on Sunday, September 10. Good luck!

Reading romances, a lot of us probably have a rather rosy picture of what real love and commitment are all about, and wonder why we can't achieve it. Well here's some interesting advice from a romance writer who has been married for 22 years. I found it rather fascinating and enlightening, and think it's great advice to follow. You can check it out here.
Nowadays, it seems like a lot of people head straight for divorce court once things get a little tough instead of taking the time to work things out. It's all about the instant gratification. I remember reading or hearing a comment Donald Trump made while he was still married to Marla Maples. It went something like "you shouldn't have to work to have the ideal marriage. If it's real, it will just happen." I never understood that attitude. For someone who put all his efforts and energy into succeeding in the business world, he apparently had no desire to succeed in his marriage. As you already know, it didn't last.
Personally, I believe one of the most important things to is talk to each other, and to be honest. And also, respect yourself and your partner. I also strongly believe that a person shouldn't settle just because they're afraid they might end up alone. Would being alone really be so bad if the alternative is to be miserable with someone? I've seen too many friends end up in dead-end relationships because of it, and believe me, there is no envy on my part.
And be honest with yourself: if you have too high expectations, you mostly likely will not be married to a romance hero. Yet is that really such a bad thing? I think some of the actions I find irresistible in a hero would not go over too well with me in real life....but that's a blog for another day. My point is, your man probably won't be the one all the women fantasize about, but as long as he's the one you fantasize about, who cares? He should be perfect for you.
What's your secret to a happy marriage/relationship? Do you believe that anything worth having worth working towards, or should it be effortless? Any words of advice?
Monday, September 04, 2006:
I'm posting this for my dear friend, the angel Laurie:
**********************************************
Hello everyone!
I know that no one wants to hear this, but the holidays are right around the corner!! For that reason, I am putting together another "Holidays for the Troops" project. I have high hopes of this being our most successful holiday campaign to date!I think you all know the drill by now, but please humor me while I do a quick run-down for those who don't. You send either items to be sent to the troops or checks, money orders or gift cards to be used to shop for the troops, I then put together shipments and send them out to servicemen and women in Iraq and Afghanistan.
This link - http://lorifoster.com/author/militarytribute.htm - will take you to the Military Tribute page on Lori Foster's website, there you will find a complete list of suggested items in the event you would like to do your own shopping for the troops. In return for your donation, your name will be added to a raffle for some wonderful prizes. While I haven't decided on just how to put the prize packages together, these are the authors that I have heard from so far about donating books and/or other goodies:
Lori Foster: A t-shirt and tote bag from Cafepress and several books
Dianne Castell: Three copies of "Texas Bad Boys" and other goodies
Becky Barker: Books
Karen Kelley: Books
Erin McCarthy: One copy of "You Don't Know Jack", one copy of "High Stakes", two copies of "The Night Before Christmas", and one copy of "The Naked Truth"
Jill Shalvis: A box of "Aussie Rules" for the raffle and to send to the troops
Shiloh Walker: Two copies of "Hunting the Hunter", one for the raffle and one for the troops
LuAnn McLane: One copy of "Dark Roots and Cowboy Boots", one copy of "Hot Summer Nights" and one copy (if she has her copies by then) of "Love, Lust and Pixie Dust"
Laurie: $25. gift certificate to Gooseberry Patch online country store
Stacy ~ : $25 Barnes and Noble gift certificate
Other authors have expressed an interest, but haven't yet indicated how they wish to help. I will be adding to this list as I have further details. The raffle drawing will be held on October 31st. I especially enjoy these holiday shipments because I can add boxes of cards for the troops to send to their friends and families, as well as holiday music, lights and decorations. Cards and letters from those who donate are hugely appreciated and always commented on. It is incredibly heartwarming and rewarding.
I am hopeful that if you have a blog you might mention this project and provide my information. Please let any authors that you're acquainted with know about this exciting project! There is absolutely nothing political about this project. It is simply a show of support for the men and women who serve our country. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks bunches, Laurie

My short story, "Dream Man", is the first piece of writing I ever submitted. I was scared to death! When I received that email with a contract attached I was on cloud nine. I ran into the livingroom crying and scaring my husband to death. Once he realized they were happy tears we celebrated!
I love that cover. So how would you describe your writing? Is it more sensual than sexy? Do you see yourself writing more erotic types of stories, similar to what you'd read from Ellora's Cave?
Eventually I'd like to write some interracial stories as well. I'm in an interracial marriage myself so I know that sometimes it isn't easy. But no matter who you fall in love with, when it's the real thing, its always worth it.
Exactly. I couldn't agree more. You and I had talked about that - I think it's an important part of life and believe there should be more stories out there about all kinds of relationships. I'm glad to hear you plan on writing them. So, now that you're about to be published, what steps have you taken in your career? Are you going to be attending booksignings and conventions?
In some ways I read differently now that I write. I notice writing styles more, I pay attention to characters and their personalities more as well. I pay attention to how I relate to a character so when I'm writing it will help me consider how the reader might releate to my character.
You mentioned two of my favorite authors - I adore them. You all have a lot in common. Kelley, you are also a very positive person, someone who is always there to support others, and it's obviously come back to you. Who has been the support system you've needed when things get tough?
Great attitude - don't limit yourself. And what will we be seeing from you? What's up next? Tell us about some of your future projects.
It never ceases to amaze me how the internet has given me the chance to meet so many wonderful people, many of whom I call friends. We have fun, we share, we support each other, and most of us just love to read romances. I am so thankful for my on-line friends.
One of these people is someone I "met" through Lori Foster's group - Kelley Vitollo. The first thing I noticed about Kelley is her upbeat, positive attitude - that made me like her right away. And I am so thrilled that her first story, "Dream Man", is about to be published! September 8th is the release day!
So here is Kelley in her own words, sharing her journey to publication.....
So Kelley, tell us a little about yourself: family, hobbies/interests, pets, childhood:
Oh, this is so fun! Its amazing that people want to interview me. Well, I'm happily married to my very own romance hero. He is a loving, supportive, all around wonderful hubby. We have one little girl named Mckenzie. She is such a character. I still get amazed everytime I look at her. We just brought home two little kittens! Pepper and Daisy. They were brother and sister and we really didn't want to seperate them. So, for the first time since I was in highschool I have a pets. I'm loving it. They are a joy to be around. I love writing, reading, scrapbooking, watching movies, and spending time with my family. Some of my favorite times are when my hubby, daughter and myself just sit around talking, laughing and playing. There's nothing like it.
When did you seriously begin writing romances? How long would you say it took you to get published with Forbidden Publications?

I started writing seriously in Febuary of this year! I've always loved writing and had planned on writing childrens books. I tried and tried but I just couldn't make it work. I was seriously starting to think that writing wasn't what I was supposed to do. I felt like I had failed. Anyway, I started reading romances about two years ago and fell in love. It took me a while to be brave enough to sit down and try to write again but I finally did. I quicky discovered writing romances was my passion. I felt inspired in a way I can't explain. Creating characters and giving them a happy ending is an indescribable feeling.

Hmm. I consider my romances passionate. The love scenes are sexy, but heartfelt. At this time, I don't plan on writing more erotic stories. But, only time will tell :)
Heartfelt - that's definitely a word that many people would associate with you, and not just because it's the name of your blog, either. What kinds of stories are you interested in writing? Where do you see yourself going from here?

I just want to tell my characters stories and tell them well. I want my stories to reflect real life. Of course there will always be a happy ending, but it will take some characters longer to get there then others. I like stories that are sweet and passionate, but can also make you laugh every now and again.

Well, first of all I'm learning tons! There is so much more to being published then I realized. I've just joined RWA so I'm really excited about that. I want to take in as much of this experience as I can! I do have plans to attend some conventions next year.
Ah, so maybe I'll get to meet you in person - how cool! Your husband has been very supportive of your writing, even getting you a laptop. How does your family feel about your new career and the dedication it takes?

Most of my family couldn't be happier for me. My husband and my mom in particular realize how important this is to me. My mom has always loved writing too so I think this is extra special for her. My husband is so cute. He tells all his friends that HIS wife is about to be published! It feels good to be bragged about! And like you mentioned, be bought me a laptop because he knew how beneficial it would be. It did help him too though. Now we don't have to fight over who gets the computer at night! There are a few other people in my life who aren't as active with their support as my mom and my husband. I don't blame them at all. I just think writing is hard for some people to understand. Especially writing romances. They just don't know what they're missing!
Amen, sister! I think more people would benefit from reading romances. As you mentioned, you have an adorable little girl. McKenzie. What do you want her to learn about relationships and love? I'm sure you and your husband set a very good example for her by both being there for her and for each other.

I want my daughter to always know her worth. I never want her to settle. I want her to have the same kind of love my husband and I have. She needs to know that it won't always be easy, each person has to make sacrifices every now and again, but there should always be more good times then bad.
Beautiful words. I have no doubt she will learn that. So, what is your favorite part of writing? Do you listen to music, or have any little rituals that you follow?

I just love telling stories. I love giving life to the characters in my head. Some people listen to music when they write, but I write to the tune of a baby monitor! 99.9% of my writing is done when Mckenzie is napping or asleep for the night. That monitor along with the cute little noises she make while sleeping have become a comfort to me.
Oh, that's so sweet! She's a doll. Who have been some of the authors that have inspired you? Do you think you read differently now that you've started writing?

The two authors who have inspired me the most are Lucy Monroe and Lori Foster. Their books not only hold a special place on my keeper shelf but also a special place in my heart. They are both phenomenal writers, and wonderful ladies. I've had the chance to get to know each of them through the Internet both as a reader and as a writer. They are supportive and caring people. Each time I finish one of Lori or Lucy's books I feel good. Their stories gave me an escape when I had a hard day, friends when I felt lonely, or just a sweet, passionate story when my mood called for it. I decided if I could make one reader feel the way I do when I finish one of their books, I will have suceeded.

My husband is a major support system for me. Also the people I have met on the Internet. The people who visit my blog, and the people from the chat loops or message boards. The romance community is a very supportive community.
Yes, I love that. There are quite a few people out there who support each other. So what types of stories don't interest you as a writer? What won't we be seeing from Kelley Vitollo?
I don't really want to limit myself. My main goal is to stay true to my characters and their stories. I think you can count on me sticking with contemporarys. At least for a while. I don't see myself writing historicals in the near future. My heart lies with contemps!
Great attitude - don't limit yourself. And what will we be seeing from you? What's up next? Tell us about some of your future projects.
I'm working on a series of three novellas. I just finished the first story called "Getting Lucky With Luciano". I'm really proud of this book. The second one is called "Unexpected Mr. Right" and its very close to being finished. The third book is planned but thats as far as I've gotten. The series is about three best friends with vastly different personalities. Kaylee is the dependable, responsible one of the group. Hailey is the beauty queen who has been looking for love in all the wrong places. She has an image of who she "thinks" Mr. Right will be but she realizes that love comes when you least expect it. Brianna is the party girl. She is the free-spirit, blunt, I'm never going to fall in love type. I really can't wait to see how her story is going to unfold! All three of the books will have appearances of each of the girls. They meet for girl's night out every Friday night at a restaurant called Luciano's. It' at Luciano's that each girl will meet or re-connect with their true love. It doesn't go quite that smoothly in the books though :)
Oh, they sound fabulous! Thank you for spending some time with me and anwering my questions. Anything you'd like to add?

I really want to thank you for taking the time to interview me, Stacy. You have been very supportive to me and I appreciate that more then I can tell you! This has been really fun. I could get used to this whole interview thing :)
LOL. Anytime, Kelley. I can say "I remembered her when...."
