Butterfly Tattoo by Deidre Knight (2009) mini, gushing review
Michael Warner has been drifting in a numb haze since the death of his lover, who was killed by a drunk driver. As the anniversary of the wreck approaches, Michael's grief grows more suffocating. Yet he must find a way through the maze of pain and secrets to live for their troubled young daughter.

Out of the darkness comes a voice, a lifeline he never expected to find--Rebecca O'Neill, a development executive in the studio where he works as an electrician. Rebecca, a former celebrity left scarred from a crazed fan's attack, has retreated from the limelight, certain no man can ever get past her disfigurement. The instant sparks between her and Michael come as a complete surprise--and so does her almost mystical bond with his daughter.

For the first time, all three feel compelled to examine their scars in the light of love. But trust is hard to come by, especially when you're not sure what to believe when you look in the mirror. The scars? Or the truth?

OMG, what can I say about this book that hasn't been said already? I was so jealous when others were reading the ebook, but I made the decision to wait for it to come out in paperback format, so that's my issue. And when the time finally came for its release, I was so excited and couldn't wait to get my copy.

It's such a gift to read a book that moves you deeply. Especially one that is such a basic yet complex love story. Michael's and Rebecca's story didn't need to be about a murder mystery, or being chased, or any other subplot to take away from their journey. The focus was on these two people, both who've had their hearts broken in some monumental way, and how they found their way to each other.

Probably the most significant revelation in this book is about love, and just how open and free of labels it is. This is especially true in Michael's case. I believe that for some people, their sexual/romantic preference cannot necessarily be categorized as homosexual, or heterosexual or even bisexual. They have this ability to love that is so open, perhaps, that when they fall in love, it's not about whether it's with a man or a woman, but just that they've made a strong and lasting connection with someone, and their gender isn't a factor. Maybe it's just the Libra in me, but I don't see love or sexuality in black and white, so this element of the storyline was completely believable, and incredibly wonderful to experience. Michael himself didn't struggle with this as much as other people did. Yes, he was in love and committed to another man for many, many years, and would have stayed committed to him if he hadn't died. Now Alex is gone, and Michael finds himself, a year later, falling in love with a woman.

And that woman is Rebecca O'Neill, a former actress who was scarred in an attack from a crazed fan. She feels an immediate attraction to Michael, but is wary for many reasons, especially considering that his previous relationship was with a man. How can she trust that what he feels is real and true, and not just a way to hold on to his deceased lover? She wants to believe, longs for it deep in her bones, but it's not easy, not considering his past, or hers.

I loved Michael and Rebecca, thought they had flaws and issues, but that's what made them so interesting. They weren't perfect by any means. However there was a connection between them that grew stronger the more they were together. And they shared a love for Michael's daughter that brought them closer.

As I mentioned, I loved the simplicity of this story, the natural way it was told. Nothing dazzling or dramatic, just a beautiful love story unfolding slowly on the pages. At times my heart ached for Michael, who'd lost someone he dearly loved, and other times it would ache for Rebecca, who longs to be loved yet cannot fully trust that the feelings Michael has for her are genuine. But he doesn't see her scars like other people do. To him, Rebecca is beautiful, and her scars don't take away from that. They are part of who is is, what she survived, and he treasures her for how strong she is, even if she doesn't see it. But if it's up to Michael, she will.

So I went in with high expectations, and was not disappointed. I didn't know what I was going to get, but what I discovered was well worth the reading journey. It was a story that moved me, very much so, and I still think about throughout the day as I go about my business. I think what it has done is made me a little more aware of people that I know, and how we look at each other. And it's a pretty cool thing.

I know I'm all over the map here, and I apologize for that. What it comes down to is that I loved this book and highly recommend it. Open your heart and your mind and just let yourself experience the pain and joy of falling in love. It's a lovely story.

Building a book boyfriend meme

Okay, I've been tagged. But this time I'm okay with that because this is a really fun one. And can I just tell you how much I love this blog button? Let's just say I wouldn't mind being in her situation right about now ;)

******

We all have our favourite book boyfriends and now you have the chance to create one just for yourself and your fantasies! How do you play? Fill out the quiz below, post a picture of a sexy man and tag five (5) other book addicts to do the same. Don't forget to pop to their blogs as let them know they have been tagged! Once tagged... you have to do the same, grab the button, answer the questions, and keep it rolling! But don't forget the picture of the sexy man! It doesn't have to match your fantasy man, just a little eye candy for the rest of us... heheheee!"- The Gutter Girls-

I've been tagged by:
Peace Love & Pat

*Hair Color & Style

As I've gotten older, I've noticed I don't care for long hair on guys anymore. I like it shorter, but not too short, dark and slightly curly so I can run my fingers through it and hold on tight ;)

*Eye Color & Facial Features

chocolate brown eyes; cleft chin; a bit of scruff; slightly full, sensual lips and tanned skin

*Height & Body Type

Preferrably around 6 feet tall, lean but not skinny, muscular but not bodybuilder type. Perhaps like this?)

*Visible Age

I would say anywhere between 30-40 years old

*Bangability (kinky/bi/size)

Definitely has to have some kinkiness, but not be a total freak. Not so big it's obscene but he has to have a good sized package and the appropriate level of talent to go with it

*Human or Other

As long as the sexxin' is in human form, I'm good with either. Someone strong, with a decent amount of endurance and some supernatural abilities couldn't hurt.

*Paranormal Skills

I would love it if he could fly, and was exceptionally strong

*Interests

He likes to keep in shape but isn't obsessive about it. Loves to work with his hands so perhaps he builds things. Has an adventurous side by not a death wish. Has a sarcastic sense of humor and love t.v. shows/movies that reflect that. Loves music, especially country and rock. Loves to read and cook.

*Special Skills

Good with his hands ;) Can operate any type of machinery - fly a plane, helicopter, etc.

I'm thinking he might look something like...

There's Something About Julie James....
...that makes her an incredibly engaging writer. Right from her first book, Just the Sexiest Man Alive, it was obvious she had "it", that unique quality to draw the reader in and totally capture their attention with her snappy dialogue, smart and savvy characters, and attractive settings. She's definitely got a fan for life with me (so that means she better keep writing *g*). Julie James is an autobuy for me, no question. That's pretty amazing considering it happened right from her first book.

Her latest release, Something About You, is no exception. I fell completely in love with Jack, and wanted so badly to be Cameron. After reading it, I was curious to know how things were going with Julie's writing, so I figured what the heck, I'm nosy, so I'll just ask her. Here is what Ms. James had to say:
S~ In the 3 books you've had published, each of the heroines is an attorney or has practiced law in some capacity. Do you see yourself writing about a different profession, or do you find that you have more stories to share with readers about this profession?

JJ: Funny you should ask. . . shockingly, the heroine in my fourth book is not a lawyer. She owns a wine shop in Chicago. That being said, I think there are a lot more stories I could write that involve the legal profession--I'm definitely not done with that!

S~ I like how you've incorporated some part of your personality or interests into your heroines. For example, we know you like wine and that you're a vegetarian (both of which have been traits shared by one or more of your heroines). Do you find yourself including little pieces of yourself into your characters or is it more that it just feel right with the story you're telling?

JJ: It's certainly easier to write a character's personality traits and interests if they are ones I personally identify with. But my knowledge of, or interest in, a subject is really just a spring board for what I use in the book. For example, before beginning to write my fourth book, in which the heroine owns a wine shop, I only knew the basics about wine. My heroine obviously needed to be more familiar with the subject, so I took a wine education class, read some books, and have gotten to know the owner of my local wine store, who was nice enough to let me shadow her for a day. So I guess the real question is, do my heroines take on my interests and personality traits, or do I adopt theirs? Hmm...

S~ Something About You is definitely your sexiest story so far, and we get to see a lot more intimacy between Jack and Cameron. Is it difficult to throw the bedroom door wide open and write those sexy love scenes between your characters? Or do you think it's something that feels comfortable within the scope of a romance?

JJ: I felt comfortable writing "hotter" scenes in this book because they fit with the overall story. With the suspense subplot, this book has more of an edge than my previous two, and I felt that more intimate love scenes worked better with the tone. Plus, there's a LOT of sexual tension between Cameron and Jack, and I thought people might kill me if I didn't show the scenes where that tension finally boils over. ;-) (You got that right, sister! *g*)

S~ Do you listen to any type of music to inspire your stories?

JJ: I don't listen to music while I'm actually writing, but I do play music during breaks that I feel fits with the book I'm working on. For Something About You, I listened to a mix of Rihanna, Billie Holiday, and the Black Eyed Peas. Weird combo, I know.

S~ We know that you've used real actors as inspiration for some of your heroes. What about your heroines? Do you have a specific person in mind when you create them or are they all based on you? (LOL)

JJ: Cameron Lynde from Something About You is the first heroine for whom I had a specific actress in mind: Eva Green's character in Casino Royale, Vesper Lynd. I even borrowed the last name. I love how tough yet feminine her character is, and I wanted to create the same impression with my heroine. So this is what I picture Cameron looking like:

S~ Has writing novels gotten easier since you first started? Where do you see your stories going? Are you happy writing contemporaries, or do you see your exploring other genres?

JJ: I wouldn't say it's gotten easier, no. Actually, my first two books were easier to write than Something About You. Adding a suspense subplot definitely makes things trickier, especially when other parts of the book are light and humorous. Balancing those two was a challenge at times. As for where I see my books going. . . I'm happy writing contemporaries, and I plan to continue with that for now. With my fourth book, I've again added some mild suspense, but like in SAY, it's just a subplot.

S~ How extensive does your research get?

JJ: I'll be honest--I did pretty much no research for my first two books. Particularly Practice Makes Perfect--I mean, I lived that life, I KNEW it. For Something About You, however, I had to do a fair amount. Since the hero is an FBI agent, and there's a suspense element, I researched guns and tiny spy cameras, how criminal investigations are conducted, those kinds of things. And I also had to do research for my heroine--even though I was a civil trial lawyer myself and obviously know what lawyers do in general, I wanted to know more about the day-to-day life of a criminal prosecutor. Luckily, I have a friend who is an Assistant U.S. Attorney, like Cameron, and I would send him emails with odd questions like: "How many other people do you share your secretary with?" or "When you meet with FBI agents to discuss an investigation, do you meet at their office or yours?" I had the big picture of the job, but I needed to know the little stuff.

S~ How has the transition from practicing law to writing full-time been?

JJ: I do sometimes miss being in a courtroom, taking depositions, things of that nature. But I enjoy writing full-time even more, so it's been worth it. And it's nice to have a job you can do in sweatpants. ;-)

S~ Since writing romance, have your reading preferences changed, or do you still continue to read in the same genre as before?

JJ: I definitely read more romance now that I write romance--before my first book came out, I was pretty unfamiliar with the genre. Now I read a mixture of both romantic fiction and literary fiction. Within romance, I try to read a mixture of all the subgenres.

S~. Since it was just Valentine's Day, what do you think, without getting too specific of course, is the most romantic thing your (brilliant :D) husband has done for you?

JJ: Oh boy, Mr. James just eats these compliments up. ;-) Probably one of the most romantic things he's done for me was on my 30th birthday--I went to New York with some girlfriends and left on my actual birthday. He gave me a card before my flight and said I couldn't open it until I got to New York. Once we checked into our hotel, I opened the card and inside was a scavenger hunt-type message directing me to go to a store located at Fifth Avenue and 57th Street, and that I'd find my gift there. My girlfriends and I walked there from our hotel, and since none of us were that familiar with New York, we had a lot of fun on the way guessing what store it would be. And since you said not to be too specific, I'll end the story there. ;-) (WHAT?! That is just so wrong! LOL)

S~ Where can we expect to see you this year, either at signings or conferences?

JJ: I'm doing a signing in Chicago on March 13th with Beth Kery, Shiloh Walker and Joss Ware/Colleen Gleason. If people are in the Chicago area, we'd love to see you! (I love all these authors! And I'll definitely be there). Details on that, and my other upcoming appearances, can be found at:

I'll also be signing books at the Chicago-North RWA Spring Fling on April 24th, and then I'll be attending the RT Convention in Columbus. As for the July conferences, I plan to attend RWA and may attend Rom Con as well, if I can make it work.

S~ What's next for Julie James? Readers like me are DYING to know!

JJ: I'm finishing up my fourth book, about a wealthy wine store owner who agrees to pose as the girlfriend of an undercover FBI agent (as part of a sting operation) in exchange for her twin brother's release from prison. And people who like Something About You will be happy to know that a couple of the characters make appearances in supporting roles. I liked Jack so much, I had to bring him back. ;-) It's the first time I've linked two books together, which was fun for me. Then it'll be on to my next book, the hero of which I think is going to be a character from the book I'm finishing now. But I won't know that for sure until I get into the story and start drafting a synopsis.

S~ Well consider me a happy little camper! I cannot wait for that one to be in my possession. Sounds fabulous! Thanx Julie, for spending your precious writing time answering my questions. I really appreciate it.

Now, as for the rest of you, I can't just leave it at that. Now I'm not sure if Julie will be stopping by today (Wednesday) but regardless, I will be having a random drawing for a copy of Something About You, which will be released on March 2nd. So here's the deal:

Contest is open to anyone who can receive mail, and will end on Sunday, February 28th, at 3pm CST. All you have to do is answer the question(s). One entry per person, and please do not leave your email address. Winner is responsible for contacting me no later than one week from the time announced, otherwise a new winner will be randomly selected.

Since Something About You is about two people who, due to a terrible situation, cannot stand each other, yet due to unexpected circumstances, are thrown together for an indefinite period of time. What I want to now:

What book and/or movie portrays your favorite

love/hate relationship, where the characters can't

stand each other but are also very attracted to each other?

Feel free to give additional examples if you'd like. This is one of my favorite tropes, and I'm always looking for good recommendations.

Now go forth and enter. Good luck!

Release by Beth Kery (2010)
From the author of "Paradise Rules" comes a story about an alluring woman-who learns that to understand desire, you have to let it run wild.

Genny loved her husband Max, but he lacked the sexual charge that was instead ignited by his business partner, Sean. Ruggedly handsome, Sean had a heart-stopping smile that made Genny weak. The more time they spent together, the stronger the attraction between them became. Then her husband offered to share her with Sean for one intoxicating night...

That night in the company penthouse, Max and Sean showed Genny the heights of ecstasy. But it was Sean who touched her very spirit, and one-on-one, they were red hot. But as Genny learns, there's a price to pay for such impulsive pleasure. What began as a night of forbidden desire spirals into a whirlpool of murder, sensual submission, secrets, and a scorching passion that threatens to consume everyone it touches.

Sean and Genny haven't seen each other in three years, not since Max was murdered, but they've never been able to forget their incredibly passionate night together. Now the mansion Genny shared with Max has been burned down in a horrible accident, and she needs somewhere to stay. So where does she go? To the company penthouse which she now owns, of course, never figuring anyone, much less Sean, would be there. And he's not alone.

Of course Sean never expected to see Genny Bujold, the one woman who ties him up in knots, to show up during a private evening, so when he locks eyes with her, all those familiar old feelings resurface with a vengeance. He regrets that she's found him like this, yet at the same time, the scene brings back heated memories of the last time they were together. Sean has never forgotten that explosive night, the only time he was able to have Genny in his arms, even if he had to share her with her husband, his business partner. He had wanted her too badly to refuse. But now all he has are those haunting moments of passion.

Sean manages to convince Genny to stay the night as she's in shock and has experienced enough upheaval for the time being. She reluctantly agrees, though she cannot make herself sleep in either bedroom. When they wake up the next morning, it's to find a heavy blizzard has struck, and they are essentially snowed in. That isn't enough to stop Genny from leaving however. She's determined to make it to her office. And when she does, with Sean hot on her heels, she discovers that someone has broken in. All of a sudden recent events don't seem so accidental after all. Sean refuses to let Genny be alone, and while they spend the next few days together in closed, intimate quarters, they finally give in to the overwhelming attraction that has always sizzled between them, and Sean hopes he can convince her that they could have so much more. But how can she trust him when she knows he's the one who killed her husband?

My thoughts:

Once again Beth Kery has written an incredibly erotic romance about two people irresistibly drawn to each other, despite the obstacles between them. When Genny and Sean first meet, she is already married to his business partner Max, and though they are both aware of the intense attraction between them, neither act on it out of their respect and love for Max. It isn't until one New Year's Eve night that Max decides to share his wife with Sean, and the two can no longer deny their long-buried feelings for one another. Yet soon after, Max is killed, and the events separate Sean and Genny for years.

I have to say that Beth's writing is strong enough not to have required the suspense angle in this story. I understand the reason she used it here, as it created drama and the perfect excuse to keep Sean and Genny away from each other. So from that perspective, it makes perfect sense. Without that, she couldn't have told this particular story. But as a reader, I wasn't all that interested in why or how Max died, or even in who did it. My focus was concentrated completely on Sean and Genny, and how strongly these two people cared about each other. It was like there was some force bringing them together, and that they were meant to be that way.

I liked that despite the fact Genny married a powerful man with plenty of money, she forged her own career path. She was not a trophy wife, but had a creative mind that needed expressing, and she did that through her fashion designs. She genuinely loved Max, at least the side of himself he let her see. But even he knew that it wasn't enough to prevent the inevitable collision course with Sean. Their feelings were just too strong. And he was very manipulative. He had plans for them all, and the majority of them, not so nice.

Sean was the quintessential alpha hero. Strong, protective, and very possessive. Yet he was also gentle. He loved his girl almost from that first moment they met, and enough that he didn't try to take her away from Max. Who knows what might have happened if Max lived, however.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the incendiary attraction between Genny and Sean. When these two get together, it is like a fire raging out of control. Seriously, if you like your romances SCORCHING hot, this is one book you have to read. In the past I used to wonder what someone meant when they said that the love scenes drove the story forward. What did that mean? When you read a story like Beth's you "get" it. They are not gratuitous nor are they filler. These moments (hours?) between Sean and Genny are incredibly explicit and earthy, yet there's subtext there. They communicate with their bodies when they can't express themselves with words. It's in the way they move, how they look at each other, the complete and utter focus on the other person. Their physical intimacy leads to them becoming closer in other ways. They open up their hearts to each other, and learn to trust the other person. That's what an effective love scene does. And really, it's just damn hot!

This is probably my 2nd favorite story by Beth. I couldn't put the book down and kept looking at it when I was at work, wanting to know what happend next. There was one itty bitty little scene that irked me, but not enough to detract from the rest of the story. Overall I truly liked Genny and Sean and hated that they were manipulated by someone they both cared for, but at the same time, those machinations brought them together. In a way, that's rather romantic, to watch them finally find happiness when neither thought it was possible. I love when that happens.

Once again I loved that extra character she throws in: the city of Chicago. I feel like I'm walking down those streets and feeling the chill of the winter wind on my face right there in the heart of the city because she makes it so real. One day I hope to go on a tour of the city like she's done and experience for myself what she sees and draws from when she writes her stories. For someone who lives right outside the city, it makes the book that much more fun to read. And anxious for Beth's next book :)

What I'm watching: Moonlight
From Booksamillion.com

L.A. gumshoe Mick St. John (Alex O'Loughlin) prowls the darkened streets of L.A. trying to crack his cases. But his predilection for the nightlife doesn't have solely a professional basis--Mick's a vampire. First bitten 60 years ago, Mick now he uses his paranormal powers to help humans rather than drain their blood. But his double life leads to complications caused by his lingering affiliations with the undead--among them his bloodsucking stockbroker friend, Josef (Jason Dohring), and vampiric ex-wife, Coraline (Shannyn Sossamon)--as well as his growing affections for a delectable reporter, Beth (Sophia Myles), who he saved years ago. This collection presents all 16 episodes of the show's first season.

I've heard about this show since it was on the air, but wasn't interested at the time. Even after it was cancelled, I couldn't drum up any interest in it. I felt I could go through life without having watched it. But two things changed my mind:
  • Alex O'Loughlin

  • vampires

First off, vampires have really, um, risen in popularity the last several years, and now it's impossible to go anywhere without finding something about vamps. Even though our paranormal elements are finding their own way, vampires are still the more seductive, mysterious creatures. While I don't read any and every vampire story that's published, I have discovered several that I am quite taken with. And now movies and television have jumped on the bandwagon and really saturated the market.

Yet even that alone probably wouldn't have convinced me to watch "Moonlight". It wasn't until I saw "August Rush", with Alex O'Loughlin in the role of one of the main character's brothers. His presence onscreen caught my attention. Oooh mama! It wasn't long after that that I ended up adding "Moonlight" to my Netflix queue.

So this weekend I finally got it in the mail, and settled in to watch it. Now I'll admit, I had certain expectations, and the first episode was a little disappointing because it was rather campy and cheesy, but after awhile, that aspect grew on me. I really liked Beth, a gossip reporter who follows all the hot stories, even though she tended to get mixed up in things that put her in danger, but she was smart and persistent, and I enjoyed how she didn't immediately fall for Mick, even though it was obvious he had feelings for her. Feelings that go back longer than she's aware of.

But the main draw of the show of course IS Mick St. John (Alex O'Loughlin). He's got a raspy voice and a little boy charm that is hard to resist. It's very easy to become enamored of him. He doesn't have a sexy Irish accent, but he does have a mean swagger and an irresistible smile. He doesn't take himself too seriously, which is good, because when he turns into a vampire, it's more amusing than scary. I find myself rolling my eyes when the vamps come out to play.

The first, and only, season has 16 episodes, and so far I've watched 12 of them, not quite ready to see it come to an end. Somehow it got under my skin, and there's so much potential for further seasons, but alas, that is not to be. I know Alex O'Loughlin was in another series called Three Rivers and that now will be cast in the new Hawaii-Five-O series, so the actors have obviously moved on.

Did you ever watch Moonlight?

Do you agree that Alex O'Loughlin is pretty damn hot?

Blog to watch: Walkabout

Walkabout
The Australian Aborigines undertake a spiritual journey know as a walkabout. Over the past year I’ve come to the realization that I need to go walkabout – not literally, but figuratively – because I don’t want to spend the rest of my life just existing. I want to enjoy life and, if possible, be happy. So why the blog? It’s to help me learn to express myself and not to be afraid when doing so. And as for what the posts contain....probably anything and everything – whatever pops into my head.

I've known Orannia for several years, through several incarnations of RomanceBuytheBook.com. She's always been very sweet and thoughtful, and I like the way her mind works, often bringing up a point of view I might not have considered. She stops by my blog quite frequently and I always look forward to her comments. She's so enthusiastic about reading and discovering new authors. I'm happy that she's participating in the m/m reading challenge *g* I don't get to stop by her blog quite as often as I'd like (yeah, same old song) but I do follow her blog and try to catch her posts when I can. In fact she recently posted a topic called Romance Fail that was quite perceptive because there are times I can relate to that very issue.

So if you haven't gotten a chance to discover Orannia's blog, swing on by and say "hey". I hope one day to visit her country and experience for myself such a beautiful place on earth :)

Have you visited Orannia's blog?

What blog(s) should I be watching?

What I'm watching: The Tudors Season 2
Mining one of history's most infamous figures to create a rich episodic drama, Showtime's THE TUDORS takes on the early life of King Henry VIII, played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers (MATCH POINT). With enough rivalries, scandals, and debauchery to make MELROSE PLACE blush, the engrossing series follows the 16th-century monarch's ascent to power, political battles, and personal ruthlessness. In this second season, Henry creates the Church of England in order to speed his annulment with Katherine of Aragon (Maria Doyle Kennedy). But what will happen when his new wife, Anne Boleyn (Natalie Dormer), can't produce a male heir? No stuffy costume drama, THE TUDORS boasts a talented acting ensemble that includes Peter O'Toole (LAWRENCE OF ARABIA) as Pope Paul III and Jeremy Northam (GOSFORD PARK) as Sir Thomas More. This collection presents all 10 episodes of the second season.

From Booksamillion.com

Oh don't you just love a rousing, sexy, frothy drama? I sure the heck do, and this series fits that description to a "t".

In the first season, King Henry wants an heir, but his wife Catherine cannot give him a much desired son. By the end of season 1, he's become quite enamored (read: lusts after) Anne Boleyn. In season 2, his greatest wish is to make Anne his queen. After manipulating his way so that now he is over the church, he puts in place several figureheads to accomplish his goal: to declare his marriage to Katherine of Aragon null and void and marry the devious and nubile Anne. Mission accomplished (hey, no spoilers here, this is all history). But alas, young Anne cannot give him a son either. King Henry, who tends to see what he wants to see and interpret laws differently depending upon his mood, is then convinced that Anne is his downfall and believes the rumors that she's entertained several men in her bedchamber, including her own brother. Then it's off with her head!

You gotta love Showtime, and the melodramatics that are brought to this series. It's full of pretty people, my favorite being Charles Brandon (played by the yummilicious Henry Cavill) who was severely under-utilized this year. Though usually his function is to get nekkid and have all kinds of raunchy sex, and since he appeared to be in love with his wife this season, perhaps it's for the best. However it still would have been nice to see more of him.

Johnathan Rhys Meyers is better-looking this season as well with that goatee he's got going on. Makes him look positively wicked. His portrayal of King Henry amuses me greatly, as he tends to act like a child throwing a tantrum. Natalie Dormer as the scheming Anne is both evil and brilliant. I couldn't hate her completely, though she definitely has her moments. The last few episodes when she's found guilty of treason are grim and a bit terrifying. I almost felt sorry for her, despite all the damage she caused on her way to being Queen. It was a violent, bloody period in time.

I really enjoyed this season and am looking forward to season 3. I tend to get a little obsessive about things that fascinate me and in fact I rented the 2003 BBC version of "The Other Boleyn Girl", starting Jodhi May and Natashca McElhone. It wasn't quite as fun as the over-the-top 2009 (2008?) version with Natalie Portman and Eric Bana, but I liked it well enough. This version is also not quite as glamorous, and King Henry not quite as attractive. And no bloody ending. Bummer.

Do you watch The Tudors?

Do you like historic dramas based on actual events?

Any recommendations for similar dramas?

Friday Night Bites by Chloe Neill (2009)
The story of a young heiress's initiation into the dark society of the Chicagoland Vampires continues...

Ten months after vampires revealed their existence to the mortals of Chicago, they're enjoying a celebrity status usually reserved for the Hollywood elite. But should people learn about the Raves-mass feeding parties where vampires round up humans like cattle-the citizens will start sharpening their stakes.

So now it's up to the new vampire Merit to reconnect with her upper class family and act as liaison between humans and bloodsuckers, and keep the more unsavory aspects of the vampire lifestyle out of the media. But someone doesn't want peace between them-someone with an ancient grudge...

This is book #2 in Chloe Neill's Chicagoland Vampires series, and let me tell you, I think it's almost better than the first installment. Chloe continues to develop the story in an engaging and fun way, with humor, drama, and tons of sexual tension that has a reader, such as myself, squirming in my chair, wanting more, more, more.

It's been two months now since that fateful day Merit became a vampire, and she's still getting acclimated to her new lifestyle. She's decided to move into Cadogan House in order to be closer to her Liege and therefore better able to serve as Sentinel. But her choice isn't an easy one, and puts much tension on her friendship with BFF Mallory, who is going through her own adjustment period after having discovered around the same time she has the makings of a powerful witch. Mallory is reluctant to explore this new side of herself, yet her "I'm so sexy I should be illegal" boyfriend Catcher won't let her ignore her newfound powers, going as far as to train her himself.

But Merit's got problems of her own. Someone is trying to threaten the family member of an old friend and is pointing the blame at vampires, so this brings Merit back into, well, the Merit fold. She's not exactly thrilled with returning to the pomp and circumstance of that world, one she willingly walked away from, but this has become House business, and Merit must put aside her feelings in order to deal with a new threat against the vampires, most especially the one she protects: Ethan Sullivan, the painfully gorgeous bane of her existence.

To make matters worse, she's torn between Morgan Greer, the fairly new head of Navarre House and Ethan, Mr. Bane of My Existence. Though she likes Morgan a whole heck of a lot, there's something about her feelings for Ethan that won't let herself become more involved with Morgan. Even though Ethan himself pushed her to the other vampire, even though he isn't thrilled by his intense attraction for her, even though many times he treats her with condescension, she still cannot stop wanting him. Still, she tries to give Morgan a chance, because he really is a great guy, and they have fun together, plus he really seems to care for her. Morgan is the guy she should want.

So between BFF drama, family drama, vamp drama, and boy drama, Merit's got a lot of...drama on her plate. Will she be able to find and neutralize the threat before her time is up and a battle is waged between vampires, shifters, and humans? Or will the unknown danger - and her own closely guarded secret - prove to be too much to avoid the possibly inevitable war?

My thoughts:

I admit, I can be cynical sometimes, and I wasn't sure if this 2nd installment would hold my interest as much as the first. I figured my crush had worn off. Between the snarky comebacks and eye-rolling, I was almost sure of it. But you know what, the last laugh is on Chloe because I absolutely loved this book!

Admittedly, the story started off a little slow, probably because there was so much I wanted to see happen, but then before I knew it, I was totally engrossed in the goings-on of Merit, Ethan, Morgan, Catcher and Mallory. I was hoping for more glimpses of Luc and Lindsey, because I love the tension between the two of them and seriously want that to move along in the direction of the bedroom (or any supportable surface, really), but there was enough going on that I could handle their delayed gratification...for now.

As I've told Chloe, I love seeing Merit struggling with her training and trying to acclimate to being a vampire. I think it makes the story much more interesting to know she doesn't come by her skills 100% naturally, that she has to constantly work at it. Plus, she's had to make several sacrifices, and it doesn't look like that will end anytime soon. Her once solid relationships are experiencing rough spots, and she's not sure what the outcome will be when all is said and done. I can't help but feel for Merit in that regard. She's suffering growing pains in multiples ways, and though becoming a vampire may have saved her life, it also ended many things for her that she will never get back.

Probably my one area of contention, and this is me, not you Chloe, is that I'm torn between Morgan and Ethan now. In the beginning, I was Ethan all the way. And it's pretty much a given that Merit, deep down, feels the same way. But their relationship in some way reminds me of the adult version of Bella and Edward (Twilight) with Morgan as the dependable Jacob. Though Merit and Ethan have this deep, irresistible attraction, there are times when it just seems so unhealthy, and I don't always like the person Merit is because of it. Morgan comes across as the supportive, caring friend that Merit just doesn't feel "that way" for. Now I know Chloe is doing this to mess with my head, because there's got to be several secrets Morgan has that haven't been revealed yet, so right now I'm rather enjoying my indecision. Does that sound strange?

All I know is I'm having a blast reading these books, and am more impatient than ever to read Twice Bitten. And....I haven't completely decided, but I do have the first 2 books in the series, signed by Chloe from last month's signing, that I might be giving away here. Or...I might give them away at the Lori Foster/Dianne Castell event. Not sure. Either way, there will be one happy reader out there :)

Nothing Denied by Jess Michaels (2010)
They say he murdered his wife . . .

Entering her seventh unsuccessful season, Beatrice Albright is beginning to realize that her beauty cannot compensate for her shrewish ways. A desperate woman whom no one wants, she must seek a man whom no one else will marry: the despised and mysterious Marquis of Highcroft, Gareth Berenger. Rumor has it he is a killer, but Beatrice is far more terrified of spinsterhood--and the company of her mother--than she is of Berenger's dark reputation.

But Gareth, while intrigued by the alluring hellion's proposal, has a proposition of his own. A man of particular tastes, he will wed no woman unwilling to satisfy them. His bride must be adventurous, afraid of nothing, and eager to experience any passion and pleasure he can devise, no matter how shocking and taboo. If Beatrice agrees to a trial affair--if she can happily shed all her inhibitions--in the end they will be wed.

And so the die is cast--as Beatrice and Gareth embark on an erotic path where danger awaits them at every turn, en route to a world of exquisite ecstasy where there is nothing forbidden...nothing denied.

"Nothing Denied" is the 3rd and final(?) book in Jess Michaels' Albright Sisters series, and perhaps arguably my favorite of all three. I am sad to see the series come to an end, because I really enjoyed visiting the sisters in this family, and following their journey as they each found love.

With her cold, bitchy ways, Beatrice Albright realizes she may have jeopardized her chances of entering into an acceptable marriage. But desperate to get away from her controlling harpy of a mother, even if it means making a deal with the devil, prompts Beatrice to approach the one man who may be as desperate to make a good match as herself. Gareth Berenger is handsome and rich, but shadowed with the insidious rumors that he is responsible for the death of his young wife a few years go, so no decent woman nor their families will have anything to do with him. But because of something in his grandmother's will, he is required to marry if he wishes to inherit. So when the beautiful yet poisonous Miss Albright offers him a proposition, he's immediately intrigued. However having lived with one woman who could not abide his preferences in the bedroom, he makes her a deal: become his lover and see if she can handle his predilictions, and if it turns out she can, he will gladly marry her.

Beatrice is doubtful but determined. Even marriage to a man who may have murdered his wife is preferrable to living as a spinster under her mother's roof. So despite her misgivings, and the extreme disadvantage to her in the event they do not suit in the bedroom, she tamps down her fears and enters into a secret and sensual pact with the wicked Gareth. Only time will tell if she'll live to regret it....

My thoughts:

First off, despite the fact that Beatrice comes across as a cold-hearted witch, there was a part of me that rather liked her for it. I didn't quite agree with her reasons for it, finding them a little weak, yet I could understand where she was coming from. Her behavior towards others was her protection, and it worked. Perhaps too well.

Gareth, however, found her rather delightful, and in fact relished the idea of taming the acerbic, prickly young woman who so boldly offered herself to him. He knew she would not give up her control so easily. In fact she loathed the very idea of being out of control, however Gareth longed to find a woman who would surrender herself completely to him in the bedroom, and trust that he would see to her every need. His desire to control Beatrice was not a selfish one, but rather one respect and pleasure. He believed that by having a woman submit herslf totally to him, to let him be her master, he would experience incredble satisfaction through their bond of trust.

I've made no secret that the Dom/sub relationship is not one of my favorites, and so you probably wonder: then why did I read this book? Well, I read it because I am a big fan of Jess Michaels'w work. I admit, I had my misgivings, because one of the biggest turn-offs for me is when pleasure is withheld as punishment. Can't stand that. Yet I think that Miss Michaels handled this relationship between Gareth and Beatrice with quite a bit of sensitivity. True, Gareth did control Beatrice, something she loathed, but after a time she began to understand that he made good on his promise to her, and that his fierce desires in the bedroom were not perverted or wrong, but wonderfully freeing and immensely pleasurable. This bond between them was so much about trust, so much so that Gareth began to want trust with her outside of the bedroom. He ultimately wanted her heart.

But he had to break through the many barriers she built around herself, and the most basic way was through physical pleasure. When she realized that she could trust him to take care of her body,to worship her and respect her in such an intimate way, her sturdy defenses began to crumble. Soon, though it terrified her to admit it, she began to care for Gareth, and wanted to build something more lasting with this caring, somber man.

Gareth also sensed that there was a great deal more to Beatrice than she allows him to see, but she's a stubborn one, and he realizes he must take care not to scare her off. While she has let herself submit to him completely in their bed, she's holding something precious back from him, and he wants that more than anything else, very badly. He must convince this proud, moody, beautiful woman that what they could have together is something that could last a lifetime....

This is why I adore Jess Michaels' books so much. She delves deeper into the dominant lifestyle and takes it outside the bedroom, exploring the emotional complexity of such a relationship, and while it doesn't completely change my feelings about it, she was able to make me respect it much more than I probably have in the past. Trust is a significant part of what goes on between Gareth and Beatrice, and the way their relationship builds, first through sex then through their deeper emotions, was very believable for me. I found it rather poignant and beautiful in its earthy, primal way. Never at any time, even when Beatrice resisted, which she did because that's part of her nature, did I ever feel she was forced or didn't ultimately enjoy what took place between them. In fact she soon began to look forward to Gareth's possession, and when he held himself back in the beginning, not wanting to push her too quickly, it was Beatrice who finally told him it was time to let her experience his complete control.

This story was unexpectedly romantic, and of course that made me very happy. The epilogue was bittersweet, because it spoke of the end of this series, but as I turned the last page, it was with a sigh of satisfaction because it ended on a very happy note. Jess Michaels does it again. I thoroughly enjoyed this story, and definitely recommend it. And wowza, it's incredibly HAWT. One of my not so guilty pleasures is the steamy lovin', and this book has it in spades. Bondage never sounded so good ;) So if you enjoy naughty erotic romances with a wonderful love story, I think you should pick up this book. Though it's part of a series, I don't believe you need to read the previous installments, though I would recommend that you do, becaue they're pretty damn good too.

Dean Day: Sam & Dean
As much as I love Dean, and believe me, I do, I can't deny that Sam (Jared Padalecki) is an integral part of the show.

They appear to be really good friends outside of work (and there have been rumors that it's a "more than friends" relationship but true or not, I love 'em just the same).

They obviously have a good time together and have fun with it. I suppose when you're that pretty, you can either be a jerk about it, or not take yourself too seriously. I like the direction these two went ;D

Oh, do I ever like the scruffy, unkempt look they've got going on here. These boys are just too cute.

And this is the dynamic duo who make up one of my favorite shows: Supernatural. Gotta love Sam & Dean.

Thank you everyone, for stopping by, and a huge shout-out to my fellow bloggers who all participated in Dean Day today. I still have to get to some more of the blogs. I hope this tribute has convinced you to watch the show if you haven't already done so. Quite a bit of awesomeness to enjoy, don't you think? ;)

10 reasons I love Dean Winchester
Only 10??? Well, I'll try to be creative as I can, but I might get distracted. What can I tell ya, I'm reall a super(natural)ficial girl at heart ;) So ere, goes, the Dean Love:

1. Dean behind the wheel of that sexy black Chevy Impala. When he's in the driver's seat, he owns the road, baby!

2. His taste in music. Driving that car and wearing that leather jacket, would you really expect him to listen to anything other than 70's rock? It's perfect for him.

3. His dirty, pervy side. Oh come on! Like I'm the only one LOL. He can be a total dawg but damn, I just love that about him. I can just imagine what he's thinking right now... ;)

4. His numerous identities. I know he shares this with Sam, but I love the references to rock stars, Scully & Mulder, and other famous names. Freakin' hil-ar-i-ous.

5. His love for his brother. They fight, and hurt each other, and sometimes even abandon each other, though sometimes that's out of their control. But when it comes down to what's important, Dean is always looking out for Sammy. And when he does, he makes my heart melt.

6. His appetite. For food, people. The guy is always hungry. Makes me figure he's equally as um, passionate, in his other appetites.

7. His vulnerable side. Despite his tough guy exterior, Dean feels things very deeply, and this mission he shares with Sam to rid the world of evil definitely takes a toll on him. But he carries on, and still cares. He's got the weight on his shoulders.

8. His practical jokes. Sometimes things get way too heavy, so if putting itching powder in Sam's underwear makes him feel better, well hell, who am I to complain?

9. He's self-assured yet not afraid to make a fool out of himself, whether it's wearing knee-high socks or squealing like "a leetle gurl", Dean has a personality all his own. Gotta love that.

10. His lips. I know, I know, I took it there, but damn, that mouth of his is a dangerous weapon, and if used the right way, I'm sure it can be a very effective and pleasurable one as well. Thank You, God, for giving that boy his sexy pout. It's given me hours of viewing pleasure.

What are some of your favorite things about Dean?

It's FINALLY here: DEAN DAY!!!!!
It has been so much fun planning Dean Day with my Twitter friends, although we mostly did our own thing. Some will post vids, some lists, whatever. Doesn't matter. It's ALL about Dean and it's all good. If somehow you're stopping here first (or even second), be sure to make the rounds and stop by some of these other amazing sites:

Here is a favorite "after the show" moment when Dean sings along to Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger"

Proving he has a sense of humor

Gotta love how he curls those lips of his ;)

Oh to be curled up next to this guy all night...or day. Sweet....

Be sure to stop by for more Dean throughout the day....

Play & win! Contest for Jill Shalvis' Double Play & Slow Heat

These two books are some of Jill Shalvis' best work, as far as I'm concerned. I really liked both of them, and thought hey, I bet you would too. So I am having a contest for one random winner to get a copy of BOTH books. Believe me, if you've never read a Shalvis book, now is your chance, because they are awesome. Baseball, sexy men, likeable & smart heroines, sexy men, humor, emotion and oh yeah, SEXY men.

Contest ends Monday, February 15th, at 2pm CST.

In order to be entered into the drawing, you must answer at least 2 of the following questions:

  • What is your favorite sports movie?

  • What is your favorite sports team?

  • What sport do you/did you play?

  • If you could play any sport, what would it be?

  • Have you ever met a sports figure and if so, who?

  • Who is your favorite or who do you think is the cutest sports figure?

  • Do sports figures make too much money?

One entry per person, so answering more questions will not increase the number of chances. So please, just choose the questions you want to answer and have fun with it. GOOD LUCK!

Coming up later today: Jill Shalvis! Plus, stay tuned for....

I have just been unreasonably swamped at work this week, and it's seriously cutting into my playtime here at the blog. Never fear though, I have stuff planned, and it will get done. Just not quite as quickly as I'd like.

So while you're waiting for my contest (for a copy of Double Play & Slow Heat!), here's a little reminder that Dean Day is coming up this weekend. Sunday, February 14th, to be exact. So I hope to see y'all stop by and show Dean some love ;)

What I'm watching: Numb3rs - Season 1

Like a cross between CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION and Darren Aronofsky's indie feature PI, the CBS television series NUMB3RS blends crime-drama with mathematics for a smart and creepy spin on the police-detective genre. Executive produced by Ridley Scott (ALIEN) and Tony Scott (TRUE ROMANCE), the series centers on a pragmatically minded FBI agent, Don Eppes (NORTHERN EXPOSURE's Rob Morrow), who invites his math-genius younger brother, Charlie (David Krumholz), to help him solve challenging cases using mathematical theories based on equations and probability. Dark and moody with a near-cinematic feel, NUMB3RS has won both fans and acclaim for its innovative approach to the conventional crime-drama formula. This collection presents all 13 episodes from the series' debut season.

I've seen Portia Da Costa have about this show quite a bit on Twitter and saying how much she likes it, so that's how this show ended up in my queue. My opinon: what took me so long! I was hooked right from the start of the first episode.

Now I'm definitely no math whiz. In fact I agonized over any type of math/science class in school. It was pure torture for me because it just didn't click in my brain. But watching Charlie (David Krumholz) come up with all these advanced calculations and observations is utterly fascinating. Doesn't hurt that both him and his brother Don (Rob Morrow) are pretty darn cute. I admit, I have a major crush on Charlie now. I think it's that "smart = sexy" dynamic. Whatever. It works for me.

It's really a fun show about solving all kinds of crimes, whether it's murder, or financial. But there's also focus on the various relationships on going: between Don and Charlie; between both of them and their father; with Charlie and a fellow professor, played by Peter MacNichol who is just hilarious. There's a romantic vibe between Charlie and pretty student advisor Mia. And a certain vibe between Don and another FBI agent, played by Sabrina Lloyd, who I think is great inspiration for a contemporary romance novel heroine. I love the balance of personal relationships and the worklife. It makes the show even that more fun to watch.

Do you watch Numb3rs?

If not, why not????

Dean Day, earthquakes, lost iPhones, oh my!
Crazy, crazy world out there. While we got snow in our area yesterday, it was probably only around 8 inches (I'm too lazy to look it up), which is nothing to us that live in the midwest. Yeah, it's a pain in the ass, but it's managable. No excuse not to show up to work though, unfortunately. Now it's cold, and drifting, but the worst seems to be over. For now.

However what was really interesting was that there was a 3.8 earthquake that rumbled this morning around 4am, and yes, it did wake me up. Me, who can usually sleep through anything, was jolted awake wondering if the roof caved in. The last one we had, in April of 2008. was registered at a magnitude of 5.2 on the Richter Scale. Fortunately there was no damage or injuries in my world, so back to our regular scheduled programming.

No, the main focus of my attention recently has been the misfortune of losing my phone. I learned the hard way that Apple does not provide insurance for the iPhone, and it is NOT cheap to get a new one. While I received great service and got a lot of assistance getting back as much of the info I had on my lost phone transferred to the new phone, it was still painful. The funny thing is, as my co-worker mentioned, how I agonized over getting a new phone and that I never splurge on anything really expensive. Then I get a fancy phone and I lose it 3 months later. It was more a case of someone taking it, I believe, because I know where I lost it and even went back the next day to try and find it, but no such luck. To the bastard that took it, I hope you get yours LOL.

And then we have Valentine's Day coming up this weekend. As a single woman, I admit to a twinge every year around this time, but this year it seems to be a little stronger than normal. Part of me thinks it's the long winter and stress, but there's the romantic in me that would love to have a cute boyfriend to share it with. I'm thinking God must have someone really special in mind for me to have me wait for so long LOL. I have to admit, I'm getting rather impatient.

But since the is no guy in my life to cuddle with this weekend, Valentine's Day is going to be a celebration of a different sort this year. It's called....D-DAY! (aka Dean Day). Several of us on Twitter are huge fans of the show "Supernatural", and most especially of one of the main characters, Dean Winchester, played so brilliantly by Jensen Ackles, and we decided to host Dean Day on Valentine's Day. And let me tell you, it's been fun working on my post. I cannot wait to see what the other ladies conjure up, all for the love of Dean ;)

So if you're not too busy on Sunday with your honey, or maybe you are a big fan of Dean and/or the show, be sure to stop by and see what kinds of treats we have in store for you. I know I'll be making the rounds and enjoying the various pictures and posts.

So, what's going on in YOUR world?

Slow Heat by Jill Shalvis (2010)
After a woman claims she's pregnant with Wade O'Riley's love child, Major League Baseball's most celebrated catcher and ladies' man is slapped on the wrist by management and ordered to improve his image. His enforcer is the team's publicist, the tough and sexy Samantha McNead.

When Wade needs a date for a celebrity wedding, Sam steps up to the plate as his "girlfriend." But given her secret crush on him and that one awkward night a year ago in a stalled elevator with too much Scotch, the whole thing is an exercise in sexual tension.

Wade is thrilled when the pretense turns into an unexpected night of hot passion. But the next day Sam is back to her cool self. As a catcher, Wade's used to giving the signals, not struggling to read them. Now, to win the love of his "pretend" girlfriend, he needs a home run -- even if it involves stealing a few bases...

I've been impatiently waiting for Sam's & Wade's story since way before I finished Jill Shalvis' "Double Play", and let me tell you, it was well worth the wait.

I love stories about characters that have this incredible attraction but either refuse to act on it or, if they do inevitably act on it, pretend it didn't mean anything. They are usually really hot, and blended with the perfect mix of intense emotion. Can't get enough of that.

As the Heat's publicist, Sam McNead is determined to give a good impression to the public about the team. Sam and Wade agree to be "pretend" girlfriend and boyfriend to clean up his outrageous ladies' man image so they can focus on what's really important: winning games. She knows that throwing herself into an intimate situation with Wade will only add to the simmering attraction between them that wasn't quite satisified by their steamy encounter in an elevator a year ago, but she's nothing if not a professional, and she can handle a little heat, as long as it doesn't burn out of control.

Wade, on the other hand, couldn't be more pleased by his current circumstances. Despite what the public thinks about his lifestyle, Wade is not the "player" everyone seems to think he is, and he's not quite done with exploring this attraction he has for Sam. He can't help it if she floats his boat, and uses every opportunity to get his hands - and mouth - on the tantalizing woman acting as his girlfriend. And is Sam succumbs, all the better.

Eventually their incredible chemistry leads to several naughty and satisfying encounters, and Sam feels more and more like this isn't just physical between, them, at least not on her side. She's discovering a side of Wade she never thought existed, and she really likes it. When her young nephew comes to live with her for awhile, Wade really takes him under his wing and looks out for him when Sam can't always manage. It's a huge adjustment for both of them, but Sam finds herself falling for the two men in her life: her tough, smart nephew who is in serious need of live, and the sexy, tender baseball player that's managed to sneak his way past her defenses. Just what is a girl to do?

My thoughts:

I liked this story even more than "Double Play", which is really saying something. It had a bit more heart, and I immediately found myself falling for Wade and hoping Sam would open her eyes and see what a great guy he was. He wasn't quite "there" when it came to getting the idea of commitment, but his actions spoke louder than words. It's pretty obvious Wade has strong feelings of affection for Sam, he's just not familiar with what they are or how to handle them. On top of that, he's trying to deal with a father who refuses to be ignored any longer. Having his father now in his face instead of hundreds or thousands of miles away is not easy for Wade to deal with, and he struggles with the bitterness and ugly memories from his childhood.

Sam is dealing with her own family issues. She's the only female working in her family business, and the men in her family tend to either yell at her or roll their eyes and ignore her ideas. She tends to put up with a lot of their behavior without fighting back, which is frustrating to watch, because it usually means they are taking advantage of her in some way, and she just takes it. However when she ends up with her nephew Tag, I think it as one of the best things that could have happened to her. It brings out a side of her that she usually keeps hidden, and her relationship with Tag is difficult at times, but also sweet and affectionate and normal. It opens up her heart.

Which means she's even more vulnerable to her growing feelings for Wade, but at least now she's not running from them anymore. She acknowledges to herself that she loves him, and while it hurts to think he doesn't love her back, at least she's taken that step and accepted it into her own life. The more I got to know her and watch her grow, the more I ended up liking Sam.

And wow, do these two have combustible chemistry! In a restroom, in a car, wherever the urge may take them. It's incredibly hot and sexy, and boy was Sam a lucky girl ;) I love how Wade can't keep his hands off Sam, even if it's just to show affection. And what woman could resist such a luscious, attractive, charming man focusing solely on her? Me? I wouldn't even try.

One thing I have to make sure I mention is just how well Jill writes the "guy" stuff. You can totally picture the conversations really taking place from a guy's point of view because they are so believable, and I've heard plenty of guys talk in that way. I believe it's one of the reasons her heroes are so incredibly sexy: because they sound like actual guys and don't say things a women would say.

I had read Holly's review before drafting mine, and I have to agree on everything she said. Especially the part about the ending of the book. I think this is the first time I was seriously disappointed in something I read - or perhaps I should say "didn't read" - in a Shalvis novel. The conclusion of the book was so abrupt and I was not prepared for it. I was like "what, that's IT???????" I'm sorry Jill, you know I adore the heck out of you, but why, oh why was Sam & Wade cheated out of their ending in such a quickie manner? It's like getting the only and only bites of the most decadent, to-die-for desserts in existence and being told "hey, that's it, no more." But I want more! Much more. At least another page. That would have made this the perfect book.

However I have not forsaken Jill, and hope we see Gage's story next. He's quite yummy. But even if it's not Gage's story, I'll still be buying more Shalvis novels. I can't give up completely on my addiction ;)

Btw, I'm holding a contest on Friday of this week to win a copy of both Double Play & Slow Heat, so stay tuned....
