Here I am again, surrounded by stacks and stacks of books yet I'm asking for even more. You can never have enough books. I got some really great suggestions when I recently asked for paranormal recs, and so now I'm once again asking for reading ideas. This time around it's to appease my naughty girl (reading) tendencies. Lately I've been getting interested in erotic romance again. I used to read quite a bit of Ellora's Cave and Samhain Publishing releases but haven't really read a lot recently. Now I'm really in the mood for some extremely sexy reads, and I just know y'all will come through for me on this one. I suppose I should define my idea of erotic romance. It's the super hawt stories - either m/f or m/f/m - that contain the HEA but focus heavily on the sexual side of the relationship. Though I love these authors and think they write really sexy stories, I would not consider them to be erotic romance authors: Lori Foster, Elizabeth Hoyt, Lisa Kleypas, Erin McCarthy, Janelle Denison, HelenKay Dimon, Lucy Monroe. Some readers may, but I've been reading most of their books for years, and consider them more sensual than sexual. Here are some of the erotic romance authors I've read: Lacey Alexander - love her books, as long as the heroine is not all about pleasing the hero instead of herself. Shiloh Walker - her Hunter series is awesome. Lora Leigh - read the Men of August and Bound Hearts. Hot but predictable. Jaid Black - defintely hot, but the same story is recycled over again. Sometimes, I admit, that works for me though. Sylvia Day - they keep getting better and better. Bertrice Small - my earliest erotic romance education around the age of 12. Nobody does "kidnapped as a sex slave for the sultan" like Small. Susan Johnson - raunchy yet rather clinical. Robin Schone - definitely clinical. Not my thing, though many readers love her books. Elizabeth Scott - more edgy, sometimes not all that sexy. Jess Michaels - more sensual and romantic. I like them very much. Jaci Burton - I loved "Wicked, Wild & Wanton" (or was it "Wild, Wicked & Wanton"?) Emma Holly - hit or miss, mostly hit. I love the intense need she creates in her characters - they just "have" to have it. Very hawt. Susan Lyons - very sexy and contemporary erotic romance. Most enjoyable. Sasha White - leans too much towards BDSM, which really ain't my thing. Angela Knight - Erotic vampire lovin' and oooh, I want "Jane's Warlord". Red Sage "Secrets" - some good, some bad. Definitely sexy though.

I admit I've not read Jenna's books, but I had read a story by Jess Michaels, called "Ancient Pleasures", and liked it a lot. Oh, and I mean a lot. It was incredibly sexy, tapping into some naughty fantasies, but nothing over-the-top.
That is what prompted me to pick up "Everything Forbidden". Although the cover is sensual and gorgeous, my first impression was that it was going to be heavy on the erotica and not so much on the romance - I was picturing multiple partners and even some pain - that's just what the whole mask thing makes me think of, even though it's not an ugly cover in any way. (Not that I have a problem with multiple partners, but the pain I can do without). Well, I shouldn't have worried, because unlike a lot of erotic romances out there, Jess Michaels concentrates heavily on the connection between these two characters, and the result is a delightfully sexy and enjoyable romance.
The premise sounds a bit like a Cheryl Holt novel I once read, and the exploration is somewhat similar though the motivation is completely different. Miranda Albright is at a loss as to how to keep supporting her family after the death of her father several months earlier. Faced with taking care of her mother and three younger sisters and fending off impending poverty, Miranda tries to make ends meet as best she can, but their financial circumstances are dire, and to make matters worse, her mother doesn't understand that she cannot spend money like it's going out of style. It appears the only way to end this miserable existence is for one of the daughters to marry and marry well. Everyone in the family thinks Miranda has passed by her opportunity, so the next obvious choice is Penelope, the second oldest daughter, followed by Beatrice and Winifred.
Knowing her family doesn't have the means to have a successful Season, i.e., catching a rich husband, Miranda approaches aloof yet rich neighbor Ethan Hamon, as he has recently retired to the country for his annual summer visit, and asks for his financial assistance. She knows there will be a price to be paid; after all there's no logical reason Ethan will do it out of the goodness of his heart, but she hasn't a clue as to what he may demand in return.
Unbeknownst to Miranda, Ethan has wanted her for quite some time, but steered clear due to his decision to never marry; Miranda is without a doubt the marrying kind and he has no desire to fall into that trap. He agrees to support her three younger sisters through each of their Seasons in exchange for three months of Miranda in his bed, and though shocked and embarrassed, Miranda is also intrigued, as she has fantasized about Ethan for the past three years, having secretly watched his outdoor liaisons and longing to feel such passion for herself. Knowing she will never marry anyway, Miranda agrees to Ethan's terms, knowing that while she primarily does it for her family, she also wants to experience the pleasure of Ethan's lovemaking firsthand, as he's been the star player in her fantasies for years.
Not one to let such an opportunity slip through his fingers, rather than let Miranda walk away once they've reached an agreement, Ethan is immediately compelled to seduce her right then and there. The lovely and innocent young lady fuels his blood as no other woman has, and he senses the deep passion lurking beneath her prim and proper exterior, but even he is overwhelmed by the willingness and fearlessness with which Miranda shows as he sets out to bed her and indulge in the delights of her body. Not ready to look too deeply at his unusually strong reaction to such an inexperienced young woman, Ethan is nevertheless consumed with uncontrollable passion for her, which both intrigues and worries him, as he prides himself on his great control. As you probably can imagine, things eventually become muddled as feelings become even more involved, though each thinks they are handling things without getting caught up in it, but when their secret meetings are discovered by an unexpected source, a decision must be made as to how best to handle this complication without drawing scandal to Miranda or her family.
This definitely a story more on the romantic side, as Miranda already had feeling for Ethan before striking a bargain with him, and Ethan was unwillingly attracted to the country miss but determined to keep his distance. I liked that the sex scenes between them were not about the shock factor, but rather much more sensual and intense because of their strong attraction to one another. Other than one unique request Ethan makes to Miranda, for the most part Ethan and Miranda indulged in some traditional, one-on-one sex, with nary a threesome in sight. No whips, no pain, no extreme and uncomfortable positions. Don't get me wrong, sometimes a good ole' threesome is just what the doctor ordered, but this time around it was a bit refreshing to not have an extra cast of characters, and more concentration was put on the growing romance between Ethan and Miranda. If I have one complaint, it's the last page of the book, that ended a bit too abruptly for me to be completely satisfied. Things seemed to wrap up rather quickly, and there was at least one unresolved issue that should have been addressed...unless Ms. Michaels has plans for a sequel about the sisters. And it would have been nice to have a few more moments of Ethan and Miranda basking in their love for each other before getting to the end; not even an epilogue was included, and I do love me those epilogues. Regardless, this wasn't the first, and it definitely won't be the last Jess Michaels' story I read. I've found that I enjoy her erotic tales very much and I am looking forward to future stories. I picked this one up along with the Emma Holly book, both Black Lace releases, and after having heard good things about Portia Da Costa's story-telling. A sequel to Ms. Da Costa's previous book " Entertaining Mr. Stone", this one nonetheless stands on its own. In " Suite Seventeen", Mrs. Convoy spent her days playing golf, badly, gardening, baking and meeting for lunch with friends from the Townswomen Guild, all very prim, proper and...boring. One night she agrees to meet her handsome investor at the Waverley for dinner, to discuss her finances. On the outside, it appears elegant and conservative, unless you know what to ask for - Suite Seventeen - and Annie has been playing it safe for long enough. She wants to live, and she wants to experience the kind of sexual excitement her kinky neighbors partake in night after night. While waiting impatiently for her date to show up, Annie meets the exotic and enticing "Valentina", with long black hair, dressed in lame', and she is stunned by her attraction to the gorgeous vision before her, knowing full well Valentina is actually a man. After exchancing a few words, Valentina leaves, and Annie is left to ponder her strange reaction to this sensual creature. Confused, her date forgotten, Annie soon leaves Waverley, intending to go straight home, until she sees him walking towards the woods, and unable to stop herself, she follows him...and experiences the most erotic, satisfying sexual encounter of her life, which leads her to discover a side of herself she never knew existed, but now she can't live without. I will admit that the domination/submission fantasy has never really done anything for me, (with the exception of Shayla Black's "Wicked Ties" and possibly the upcoming JR Ward release about Vischous and the Black Dagger Brotherhood) so I was a bit reluctant to pick this one up, feeling like I would have judged it before even reading it. Fortunately it was not a hardcore D/s story, so I was able to delve into it without the squeamish factor taking over. I found it a bit interesting how Annie, who'd never really had fantasies about being dominated before, was suddenly overcome with the irresistible desire to submit to Valentino, but instead of making her weak, her new-found lust frees her from the constrictive old life she once knew and was quite happy with in her marriage. But she is a different woman now, with different needs, and they have given her a new confidence and possibly a chance at love again. Annie recognizes that she cannot be the clingy, dependent woman if she is to hold on to her man, so she establishes herself as a strong, independent woman who enjoys what her and Valentino share, but never asks for more than he is willing to give. In turn, he is free to be himself, in any of his various personas, and she accepts him, cares for him, lets him do anything he wants to her as long as they are together. This trust gives Valentino what he needs to commit to Annie, forever. I have to give Ms. Da Costa tremendous credit for pulling me into the story, despite my intial reservations. I still don't really find the dom/sub scenarios to be my thing, but I can better understand how many people find them to be exciting and arousing, and not about being conquered but about surrendering control to someone you trust to experience extreme pleasure. I liked Annie a lot, how she developed a sassy and assertive confidence, and how wasn't afraid to explore her new fantasies. Valentino could have been cruel but he wasn't, instead you find out that he'd been hurt before, and his relationship with Annie was very important to him, despite his past. If there was anything I didn't like about the book, it was the numerous references of Annie being an old woman, or even middle-aged. In today's world, mid-forties is still considerably young, and the references to her as "an old mare" made me think of someone twenty years older than she actually was. Instead I think Annie was a classy, lovely and sensual woman who is impatient to live life to the fullest; she's not old at all. No, I think she is divine. This was my first Portia Da Costa story, but most decidedly not my last. I will have to get a copy of "Entertaining Mr. Stone" to read Maria's and Bobby's story, and there are quite a few other books in her repetoire that I will have to look into as well, and here is the place to check them out. I completely loved the first one I ever read, " Beyond Innocence", which kinda flipped my switch for erotic romance, but thought the second, " Beyond Seduction" was lacking the tension and romance of the previous book. I really liked " Personal Assets", but thought " Strange Attractions" was just okay. I absolutely loved " All U Can Eat" so when I was perusing the bookstore yesterday and came across some of her Black Lace stories, released in paperback, I found this one, "Menage" which immediately got my attention. Here's why: Philadelphia bookstore owner Kate comes home from work one day to find her two flatmates in bed together. Joe - a sensitive composer - is mortified. Sean - an irrepressible bad boy - asks her to join in. As they embark on a polysexual menage a trois, Kate wants nothing more than to keep both her admirers happy. However, things become complicated. Kate has told everyone that Sean is gay, but now he and Kate are acting like lovers. Can the three of them live happily ever after - together? I'll admit it, there's something about the m/f/m and even the m/m/f thing that does it for me in a big way. Maybe it's the whole taboo angle, the forbidden lust and all that, but whatever the reason, it works for me, especially if it's obvious the men are very masculine and dress like men and talk like men and aren't overly pretty. "Menage" does all this and more, and it appealed to me on several levels. Divorced thirty-something bookstore owner Kate Winthrop is enthralled with her two young lodgers, twenty-something grad students Joe and Sean, both who turn her on, especially Joe, the sweet, dark-haired one that actually blushes in her presence. Catching them in bed together leads to a sexy invitation she simply cannot refuse, even if she wanted to. Indulging her own fantasies with the younger men is unexpectedly an emotional experience as it becomes evident that Joe's feelings for Kate are more than physical. Even Sean, who feels somewhat possessive of Joe, begrudgingly cannot deny his own attraction to Kate. After a rather wicked encounter with Sean at her bookstore, and a more romantic one with Joe at her house, she begins to learn more about the guys she lives with, such as how they met, and their own personal preferences. The only rule the three share is that they don't sleep with anyone outside of the trio, yet each are willing to explore and pleasure each other in a multitude of ways. As time goes on, their sexual relationship becomes one of supportive friendship as well, as each experiences career changes and opportunities that challenge the intense yet precious connection they all share. When Joe is given a golden chance to make his dreams come true, it forces an unwelcome change to the relationship, one that takes him to New York City and away from the two people he cares about most. Will he be happier following his dream, or following his heart? Wow, this book was hot, hot, HOT! But also wonderfully romantic and endearing. Emma Holly created an intimate setting at Kate's house for the three lovers, one that lets them play to their hearts' content. Despite my reservations when I first picked up the book (remember hit or miss?), I found Kate, Sean and Joe to be remarkably likable, what with their flaws and insecurities but also with their acceptance of their own sexuality and how they relate to each other. I couldn't help but hope that the three would stay together, finding someway to make their relationship permanent. What made the sex so hot was the fact that they cared so much for each other, wanted to keep their menage exclusively between the three of them, and had hopes and aspirations outside the bedroom. Nothing is more boring in an erotic book than to read nothing but sex scene after sex scene with nothing else to sustain the story, yet here you watch as Kate's store becomes more profitable, hear Joe sing the songs he composes, learn that Sean has a strong work ethic and is spectacularly good at accounting. I loved getting these glimpses into their lives. Re-released in May but originally published in 1998, I had to wonder how I would have felt about this story if I'd have read it all those years ago. Would I have found it shocking, or titillating? Compared to a lot of the erotic romance out there, it's fairly standard, but 10 years ago it probably would have caused quite a sensation, right along with Bertrice Small (my first erotic romance author) and Susan Johnson. Regardless, I bought it yesterday and finished it in one sitting, it was that good. [I highly recommend it, and am always looking for similar EH books to read. I'm not into any f/m/f or f/f/m stuff, and I don't even know if she writes any stories like that. I just want to find more stories like "Menage" and "All U Can Eat". There were several of her Black Lace stories that were out, but none of them really appealed to me, at least not at this time]. Anyway, I loved it lots and hope you do too. Have you read Emma Holly? New-to-me author: Shayla Black
I discovered Shayla Black when I saw the tantalizing book cover and just had to pick it up to find out what it was all about. Boy was I glad I did. Now that I'm discovering I have quite a penchant for erotic romance, I'm constantly on the lookout for ultra sexy reads that aren't sleazy or boring, and her first book, " Wicked Ties", was neither of those things. In fact, it was the exact opposite on both counts. The book had just the right dose of BDSM elements that made it overwhelmingly hot and intriguing, but not so much so that it creeped me out or left me cold and uninterested in the plot or the characters. Since the BDSM fantasy has never been a particularly strong one of mine, a lot of credit goes to Shayla for drawing me into the story right from the beginning and keeping me hooked throughout. I found myself more and more caught up in the lifestyle, curious to know how it can be both physically satisfying and emotional to those who were involved in it. Probably the biggest factor is trust, and how necessary it is to have enough trust in the other person to know what you need. So if you're curious about BDSM, or just enjoy reading really sexy erotic romance and haven't already discovered this author, this might be just the place to start. FYI: Shayla also writes as Shelley Bradley. These books I haven't read yet, but if they're anything like the Shayla books, then they are definitely worth the time. Authors coming out of the closet...
I won't lie: I love the sizzling hot, sexy romances. You know, the ones about fulfilling fantasies and losing one's inhibitions in pursuit of pleasure. Not only do they provide a safe way to explore and learn about yourself by fueling your imagination and freeing you from the guilt of enjoying what previously may have been considered wrong or dirty, or maybe just too wild, but they are a hell of a lot of fun to read! I don't see anything wrong with indulging in a fantasy or two, and I'm happy to find that stories like this are becoming more and more acceptable, and much easier to find. Recently, Toni Blake came out and admitted that she also wrote as erotic romance author Lacey Alexander. I had no idea, though it appears I may have only been one of very few who didn't know. Now, I love Toni's books, recently having finished "Swept Away", which was sexy and romantic and full of adventure. The cool thing is, I was also a fan of Lacey's books way before I knew it was actually Toni writing them. Find out that they are one and the same person was like icing on the cake. Both of these authors are not only mega talented, but also sweet and gracious ladies who appreciate their fans and truly love what they do.
