Never saw the movie....

An extra-terrestrial is accidentally left behind on Earth and is befriended by a young boy and his brother and sister. As Elliot attempts to help his extra-terrestrial companion contact his home planet so that he might be rescued, the children must elude scientists and government agents determined to apprehend the alien for their own purposes...which results in an adventure greater than any of them could have imagined.
It's true. I've never seen it. I used to say that with embarrassment, but now, almost 25 years later, is it even something that I should see? I thought Drew Barrymore looked adorable as the little sister, and of course, E.T. himself is rather cute, in a rather bit of an ugly way. But now, with special effects and technology and all that, I'm wondering if it'll just seem cheesy and outdated, and I'll end up not liking it.
What popular classic have you never seen?
Do you ever plan to watch it?

  1. Hi Stace - I hated ET. I don't like sad endings, so I saw it once, and will never ever sit through it again.

The one movie I've never seen, that everyone else has seen? Gone With The Wind. I've read the book probably three or four times, but Rhett Butler absolutely positively did not look like Clark Gable, so I never saw it. Vivian Leigh? Perfect casting, but Clark Gable? Not in my mind.

No, I'll never see GWTW. Don't want to.

  2. I'm the same as MaryKate. I've never seen Gone With the Wind!! Shh, I'll tell you a secret, I've never read the book either!

  3. MK: okay, now I don't feel so bad. I don't mind sad endings, but they're not a favorite. As for GWTW, Vivien Leigh was perfection as Scarlett, and Clark Gable worked for me, probably because I was always aware of him in the role, way before I even knew there was a book.

Kelley: I've seen the movie - even went to the museum last year in Atlanta for RWA, but I've only read a few chapters of the book.

  4. I liked ET when I saw it in the theater (when I was about 2), but now I find it boring. LOL

  5. Jenster said: I liked ET when I saw it in the theater (when I was about 2), but now I find it boring. LOL!

Ugh. Now I feel old! I think I was 11 or 12 when it came out.

  6. Until this past Christmas I had never seen It's a Wonderful Life.

  7. Marykate - I was lying because I feel old, too. I think I was about 11 or 12. (I'm 41). Sorry to bring you down! :o)

  8. Ok, I was lurking but now I feel the need to defend. ET RULES!!

I loved the movie then and now.
MK, I don't usually do sad endings either but it wasn't so bad when you think that he was going home.
We bought the video and showed our kids and they adore it. I don't know what it is about it but that movie will never get old to me. True, the special effects are a bit dated but have you seen some the the old horror movies? Please. Talk about cheese.
I adore ET now and always will.

The movie I haven't seen is To Kill A Mockingbird. I just never had the opportunity to and I don't feel like I'm missing anything. However, I'm not opposed to it. I think a young Gregory Peck is hotter than Hades.

  9. I've never seen ET all the way through in a single sitting, I'm sure I've seen most of the bits though LOL.

    I haven't seen CLOSE ENCOUNTERS...

  10. E.T. was the first movie that I ever saw at the actual cinema. I was 4 or 5...I think.

I've never watched The Wizard of Oz all the way through. There is just something about that movie that grosses me out!

    I loved GWTW though!!!!

  11. I found out recently that a friend of mine has never seen any of hte Star Wars movies so we are going to have a movie night soon.

  12. PS congrats on winning Janelle's book!!

  13. Hey Kris! I didn't realize you were a Plotmonkey too - how cool :) I'm so excited about winning that book.

Hi Jen, I laughed when you said it was boring. Poor ET....

Julie, you rock for defending your movie. I'm glad your kids liked it.

Toni, I've only seen parts of Close Encounters. What I remember most about it is my dad had a sci-fi record that had the theme songs to all these movies, and the theme to CE was one of them - it was a cool record....

Jodi, my uncle couldn't watch The Wizard of Oz when he was a kid - those flying monkeys scared him! I absolutely adored "Wicked". Have you gotten a chance to see it?

  14. No, I haven't seen Wicked. I know I would like it though. I like anything Broadway!!
