After the holidays.....

Morning all! Hope you survived the holidays :) My Christmas was fun but really low-key; spent it with friends, so it was quiet, but enjoyable. My kinda holidays.

How'd you make out with the gifts this year? I got a lot of giftcards (B&N, AMC movies, etc), and last night I found out I won a Maggiano's $20 giftcard on Twitter, so I made out quite well. My big gift to myself this year was my iPhone, which I got almost 2 months ago, but still consider it a Christmas present. I wanted to get a GPS but maybe next year....

Then I had to get Supernatural on DVD, so I got seasons 1-3, still waiting on season 4. Just can't get enough of those Winchester boys, especially Dean. I love how the series mixes it up with some funny and weird episodes alongside the more serious ones. I also like how they go back in Sam's & Dean's history, not just always going forward. I'm currently watching season 4 from Netflix while I wait (im)patiently for my boys to arrive at my doorstep.

Got a lot read this past weekend, at least a lot for me. Read 3 books - Lisa Kleypas' "Tempt Me At Twilight" (LOVED it); Sherry Thomas' "Delicious" (it was okay, not as sensual and erotic as I'd hoped); and Stephanie Tyler's "Hard To Hold" (loved it), a difficult read but one I couldn't put down. I'm so looking forward to her other books.

Movie-wise, other than Season 4 of Supernatural, I watched a sweet gem called "Bella", which I think I'll be posting the review for tomorrow. It was rather fitting for the spirit of the season.

Last but not least, I know I've mentioned a big contest coming up in just a few short days, and I have really no idea how it's going to go down. I'll think of something, I hope. It's my blog anniversary and I've almost reached 1,000 posts. I'm really excited that I stuck it out so long LOL. And so far, no plans to close up shop any time soon. I'm having too much fun! Thanx for hanging with me :)

So, how were your holidays?

Best gift?

Holiday musings....

Well, taking the week off has been productive, thank God. Now I can avoid the mall for the rest of the year - yay! I hate shopping under the best of circumstances, but during Christmas, it's like Chinese water torture.

Let's see, what have I been up to...well, so far I've written out over 80 Christmas cards, shopped for my three "kids" that I got at work to buy gifts for, wrapped said gifts. Did I ever mention how much I hate wrapping? Well, it's a fact. It just goes against my nature. Gift bags are a blessing, but since kids love to rip open packages, well, that meant agonizing work for me. They look like a toddler wrapped them, with lots of tape, but you can't tell what they are, so that's all that matters to me.

Then I had to buy a gift for our boss. Wow. What do you buy for someone who has champagne tastes and you're working on a beer budget? The idea of a tea service for one was mentioned. Okay, fine. Sounds easy enough, until you go to Macy's or Carson's and discover that a small, dainty teapot runs you anywhere between $230 to $350, and that's the low end. And everyone and their mother-in-law has a dish line - Kate Spade, Vera Wang - designer cutlery? It would appear so.

Fortunately, I did find something at this lovely little tea shop called Teavana. Now I'm not a tea drinker, but I did try a sample of this amazing tea - a mixture of Jasmine Dragon Phoenix Pearls & Rooibos Tropica - which smells heavenly and tastes even better. Who knew I'd end up liking tea? Well, I might just have to get myself my own little teapot and join the craze.
Tomorrow is our annual Christmas party, and we are going to a lovely Italian restaurant called Maggiano's. Last year it was a Greek restaurant. We are just all over the place here. I am looking forward to it, though it feels a bit early, but at least there is no big snowstorm in the forecast like there have been in years past. I'm not ready to face the reality of a midwest winter quite yet.

It's over already????
All the preparation and anticipation can never quite prepare me for the end of Christmas, especially when I have to be at work the next day. I always feel a little depressed afterwards - do you? It's not as bad as when I was a kid, and missed Santa Claus, but there's a bittersweet feeling that it's over, and won't be back for another year. I don't even feel this way on my birthday LOL. There's just something about this time of year....and the long, gloomy, dark and bitterly cold winter months ahead. Yep, I'm now depressed.
My Christmas was rather low-key this year, and I bought the gifts that are my favorite ones- my ipod and a new red Razr cellphone. I also got some bath & body sets, one was a cute little "Angel" purse with perfume and lotion from Victoria's Secret; holidays candles; a flavored coffee set; some books; gift cards to Starbucks and the bookstores; some holiday ornaments; a tiny purse; Fannie May chocolates; and a lovely bracelet. All in all, I'm pretty happy with my stash of goodies. So, how'd you make out? What kind of cool stuff did you get?

In other news, I've been read "The Slightest Provocation" by Pam Rosenthal, and I must concede with defeat that I am just not an intellectual reader. It's an okay read, but I feel like I should have been able to get more out of it. Something lacking on my part? I don't know. I read a bunch of glowing reviews, and I just decided that it didn't float my boat, so why worry about what other people thought? It's not going to make a bit of difference. I'll probably try and re-read it at some point, just because I believe a book like that is great for mature, lively discussion, but for now I just don't feel up to the task. Let me wallow in my superficiality for a bit longer.

Now I have to gear up my strength to go back to work tomorrow and let it be business as usual. No, I will not be going shopping tomorrow...maybe. But Tuesday I might hit a few stores. At least there's one more long weekend to look forward to!
